SPECIAL FEATURES

FREE THE YOUTH
Young, passionate and radical, the guys at “Free the Youth” have understood the power messaging and translated that energy to the pieces that they put out. They released their first collection in the latter part of 2015. Which included t-shirts and sweatshirts with “THIS PAIN IS PRINTED ON COTTON” boldly written across it. And from there it has been a wave of outspoken stuff since. The thing about this brand is the fact that they had very little acknowledgement when they first emerged on the fashion scene and yet have made a significant impact on the streetwear culture here in Ghana. They even got featured on a recent CNN article (we love to see it!). It’s always nice to see young people out there in the world doing amazing stuff and the guys at this brand are no exception.

OLDROCK
This brand noticed a problem and found an interesting solution to it. They discovered that most socks on the market were mostly made of thick cotton or synthetic material which did not favour those with sweaty feet in the hot African weather. The solution? Well, they decided to go with bamboo and it paid off. In December 2015, the company produced their first batch of socks (244 to be exact) and it was an instant hit. Selling out like hot cakes in just four days.  Now Old Rock clothing develops four collections on a quarterly basis every year and they even give customers the option of bringing their own designs for their private collections. This again shows just how young people in this space are finding creative ways to generate income while providing jobs for others.
