iReady Fall Diagnostics Begin
Our school is implementing a Mathematics and Reading program called i-Ready. Below, you will find information about the program and how we will be using it in the classroom. We will begin our FALL Diagnostic assessment window beginning on Monday, August 31, 2020. This does not mean that all students will begin on Monday, however in the next couple of weeks, ALL LP students will take the assessment. Please wait for further information from your child’s classroom teacher regarding this.

What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.

What can I do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
  • Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
  • Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.
  • Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
  • "Use paper and pencil to show work for math questions”

How will eLearners be assessed?
All eLearners will be proctored taking their iReady assessments via zoom by their classroom teacher. Students will login to zoom with their teacher and when instructed will login to their iReady account to begin the assessment.

Important Details for eLearners:

  • Zoom camera must be on
  • Student must be in a silent work space
  • Student must wear headset/headphones for the entire assessment
  • Student must submit a copy of his/her scratch paper for math assessment to teacher
  • Learning Coach/Parent is not allowed to assist in ANYWAY
  • Learning Coach/Parent is not allowed to read ANY items on the assessment to the student
  • If student has a testing accommodation, those will be permitted to be provided by the Learning Coach/Parent per the 504 or IEP document (our ESE/504 staff member may consult with you as needed)

What happens next?
The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help us identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. Our teachers will share these results with you throughout the year and assist your child in setting goals that are led by this data.

If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.

Announcement from the Board Regarding Additional Building Construction
As Lutz Prep was managing the extraordinary events of the last several months arising from COVID-19, the Board has also continued to focus on advancing the project to build an additional building which would expand the overall Lutz Prep enrollment by 200 students.

The final building design and construction planning phase of the project is complete.  However, it is also clear, as a school, we were facing a range of uncertainties regarding the future.  These included matters such as:
  • the amount of per student funding we would receive in coming years
  • whether or not the school can continue to operate as it has historically done
  • fluctuating interest rates for the bond to finance the project
  • the timing on resolving some project related issues.
These issues all contribute to increasing the overall risk the school faced in moving the project forward.  As a result, the Board has decided that it would be prudent to ‘pause’ moving forward with the project until there was some clarity around these issues.  The Board will continue to closely monitor developments over the coming months, and fully expects once there is more clarity on the path forward and they have confidence that the school can proceed with the new school building without undue risk, the project will be re-initiated.

This means the completion of the new school building is delayed at least one year, with the target to have the new building ready for the 2023-2024 school year.  The Board will provide updates as further decisions are made.
