“It takes a village to raise a child”, is an often quoted African proverb that speaks of the importance of the community and the interaction between its members to give a child a safe, healthy and nourishing space to grow in. At Gateway, we couldn’t agree more about the power and need of the community that we call our 'Gateway family'.
 
As parents, educators and collaborators in this process, we all come with a wealth of experience in raising our children, whether at home or school. We now want to start sharing these experiences with one another, to further strengthen our community. 
 
It brings us much joy to announce our blog page, as part of the Gateway website, that will feature pieces written by parents, team members- including teachers and therapists, and collaborators who work with children with special needs. This is a safe, constructive and honest space for you to share your personal stories, experiences and journey with the community, so we can remind ourselves that we’re not alone and no hurdle is unsurmountable.
 
We want to hear about your struggles. Because at the end of those struggles, we know there have been victories, however small.
We want to hear about your successes. So that many of us can follow those steps to success to reach our own.
We want to hear about your journey. Because maybe it will inspire us to find our own little paths and be as resilient as you.
We want to hear your stories. So we can learn from them as we are writing our own every day. 
 
We kickstart this new endeavour by a heartfelt account by our founder, Indira Bodani, as she traces her journey as a mother of a child with special needs, showing once again the role and need of a community to overcome the toughest of hurdles. We hope you enjoy it.
