COVID-19 POLICIES
As students, teachers, and staff are out of class, we know this raises questions for families. We want to assure you that we are being cautious and following CDC and GA Department of Health guidelines, which means anyone who has even mild symptoms or who has had direct exposure to someone with COVID-19 is asked to remain at home for a period of time.

When there is a positive case we will notify families in the affected grade. If there is crossover among grade levels (students who have classes with students in other grade levels), we will notify the families of students who were in contact with the individual who has tested positive for COVID-19. If a child has had direct exposure to the person with COVID-19, families will be notified separately with information on next steps for your child. Direct exposure is defined as someone who was within less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes within 2 days before the onset of symptoms (for a symptomatic person) or 2 days before a positive test (for an asymptomatic person) of the COVID-19 positive person.

We have been blessed as a community with a very limited amount of cases. At this point, we have had one confirmed employee case, who has now safely returned to work, and one confirmed student case. In both situations, we have promptly communicated with parents of students in close or indirect contact with the confirmed case. As a school, we are remaining diligent in our adherence to Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines in and out of the classroom. We encourage our families to continue taking safety precautions at home, especially during holiday weekends when people are moving around more and risk of exposure may be higher.
PROTOCOLS FOR REMOTE LEARNING
We are deeply committed to direct and personal engagement as an important element of the learning experience. God designed us with a relational nature, and we believe this is such an important aspect of deep and lasting learning. While we are committed to this relational approach, we do understand the challenges of this time and the impact of COVID-19. This commitment is evidenced by the protocols we have established to maintain as safe an environment as possible here on campus. We will continue to build intentional practices in our classroom where possible to engage both the virtual and in-person learners. To best move forward with our remote learning approach, please review the information below.

For a full explanation on remote learning protocols, click here.

Remote Learning Protocols:

  • Students who are experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms or who have been asked by the school to follow the health and safety protocols established in response to the current pandemic may use remote learning.
  • Students whose parents have made the judgment that attending school is not appropriate at this time due to COVID-19 concerns, that are not related to the school mandated requests, may also use remote learning. In this case, the decision to move to remote learning will be in two week increments.
  • The division principal, in consultation with the assistant head of academic affairs, may determine that a student who is out for an extended time for reasons unrelated to COVID-19 may access remote learning.
  • Remote learning is not for general or short-term absences from school for reasons unrelated to COVID-19.

Contact Protocols:

If you have questions or concerns regarding these protocols or would like to provide feedback related to your experience, please contact Nathan Stevens, Assistant Head of Academic Affairs, by email or at 678 205-1398.

If you would like to be added or removed from the remote learning plan, please contact the appropriate principal.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Each year, all Whitefield students participate in a variety of community service events in the spirit of putting "others ahead of self." We started the year with a wonderful Great Day of Service and we'd love to keep the momentum going throughout the school year. Lower School classes team up to complete a community service project and the 5th grade also works together in service to the community.

In order to complete their required service hours, 6th-12th grade students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of community service events throughout the year. Many of these events are coordinated by Whitefield's Hands and Feet Service Academy (led by Upper School students) and will be highlighted on Schoology as well as in this Spiritual Life section of the WolfPack Weekly with links to sign up. This year, we plan on offering a number of physically-distanced events or even service projects students can do from home, like creating encouragement cards for seniors or packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Be on the lookout each week for opportunities to serve!

Any 6th-12th grade students who participated in community service this past summer can submit their hours towards their 2020-2021 community service requirement. Upper School students submit their completed service hours through x2VOL (more information about using x2VOL will be shared in advisory), while Middle School students place completed community service forms in the mailbox outside Mrs. Marks’ room, M-309.
