Hello, and welcome to the Trust & Safety Professional Association (TSPA) mailing list. Thanks for your interest. We’re excited to share the latest news and updates about TSPA with you.

After months of laying the groundwork, we launched TSPA and the Trust & Safety Foundation Project (TSF) in June. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out the launch announcement here. TSPA will support the global community of professionals who develop and enforce principles and policies that define acceptable behavior online. TSF will focus on improving society’s understanding of trust and safety through educational programs and multidisciplinary research. We’re continuing to build our library of resources, and are spending our time gathering feedback from the trust and safety community to set priorities for the coming months.
 

We need your feedback! Participate in the TSPA survey

We’ve put together a 15-minute survey to collect feedback from the trust and safety community so that we can develop relevant and meaningful priorities for this upcoming calendar year. It includes questions such as: Which high level focus areas should TSPA take on? Which panel topics we should prioritize?

Could you fill it out? Your feedback is anonymous, and will be shared only with internal TSPA and TSF stakeholders in aggregate. If you’ve already received a similar TSPA survey through other channels, please only respond to one of the surveys. The form will accept responses until Friday, August 28.

Every week, TSF publishes case studies from the digital think tank Copia Institute. Each case study highlights a real-life dilemma, looks at questions raised by the case, and explores the policy implications for any outcome. Here’s a snapshot of some case studies we’ve published in recent weeks:

• Twitter freezes accounts trying to fact check misinformation (2020): Twitter's swift enforcement against misinformation leads to suspension of fact checking accounts that point to the original deceptive content.

• US Army bans users for asking about war crimes on Twitch & Discord (July 2020): Decision by the US Army to filter content on Twitch and Discord raise questions about restricting users' 1st amendment rights.

• Nextdoor faces criticism from volunteer moderators over its support of Black Lives Matter (June 2020): Volunteer moderators, bringing their political viewpoints into moderation discussions, review and remove posts related to the Black Lives Matter movement.

As the Founding Executive Director, you will be key to getting TSPA and TSF off the ground, and setting and executing our strategy in order to serve the trust and safety community and the world.
