Hello, <<First Name>>,

Resiliency is often top of mind here at The Water Council. Aside from COVID’s curveball, aging water infrastructures and climate change are perennial culprits straining social and economic systems just about anywhere you can point to on the map. This is why the first three episodes of our Water Sessions podcast features people focused not just on plugging holes but to building more resilient water systems that, in turn, build more resilient communities.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to hear Ghassan Korban, George Hawkins and Dan Burger’s stories, I invite you to listen (and share!). I’m sure you’ll appreciate another common thread found in each episode—the drive to not just react to the current stresses on our water systems, but to proactively look ahead.

In our role as a B2B matchmaker, I’m pleased to share that an introduction we made for overseas member SigmaDAF Clarifiers to Clearwater Industries, a Milwaukee water tech company, has led to a new venture, SigmaDAF-Clearwater. The deal enhances both firm’s cutting-edge work in water clarification and we wish them the best of luck.

In breaking water stewardship news, Google earned Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification for its California campuses in Mountain View and Los Angeles as well as Dublin, Ireland. As the first leading tech company to certify its own business operations to the AWS Standard, positive momentum continues to build around corporations prioritizing their commitment to sustainable business practices.

As you know, supporting innovation in water technology is one of our key initiatives. The next round of our Corporate Tech Challenge program will open Sept. 1. Since the program’s launch, participating sponsors have identified 38 companies from 13 different countries as having novel solutions to address their technology needs. Sponsors are continuing to follow up with 27 companies that have a potential fit in their R&D programs. Over 42% of the applicants were previously unknown to the sponsors. If you’re wondering what new innovations you may be missing out on, we’d welcome helping you discover new innovation pathways.

In addition to our innovation programs, the Kingdom of Jordan is fielding proposals for the upgrade and construction of the wastewater infrastructure system and to prequalify companies and consortia for the development and execution of the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination & Conveyance Project. Also, if you have your eye on expansion opportunities in South Korea, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is organizing a virtual global trade venture in late fall, with applications closing Sept. 18.

With the U.S. presidential and congressional election looming, we were pleased to host a panel discussion on U.S. water policy with two Washington, D.C. insiders, Josh Greene and Tim Hannegan a few weeks ago. If you were unable to join us for the event, the replay is now available and well worth your time.

And for those of you curious about our operations, now’s your chance to go behind the scenes with our CFO and COO, Amy Jensen, to learn more about her work here at The Council.

Until next month, I wish you good business and good health.

Cordially,
Dean
