Ducks love oatmeal like readers love deals...

August news from Sherry D. Ramsey

While making the most of summer, I made a friend at the park...

This newsletter is mailing out a bit late because today I discovered a wasp's nest in my office window. I'm thinking that juxtaposition of the friendly duck and the intrusive wasps represent the kind of summer this has been...

At My Desk

Ah, summer, when I plan to accomplish so much and usually accomplish so little.

Well, that's not really true. It all depends on how you define accomplishments, and this summer I've managed to stay relatively sane and cheerful despite pandemic and world worries. I've worked in my gardens, supported my daughters in their work-from-home summer, kept the household running and managed to have some safe and socially-distanced fun. I also completed the markups on my novel and am currently transferring all those changes to the digital file for final polishing. Work on other projects has been intermittent, but nothing had dropped off the "current" list, so I'll count that as a win.

With the fall semester and more university teaching on the horizon (entirely online for now), I'm making plans for preparing and juggling those duties while not letting my writing slide. The teaching was extremely time-consuming at the beginning of the year, but with one term under my belt, I feel better equipped heading into the next one. Time management is about to become my new best friend. :)

Summer Reading

It's been a good reading summer for me so far (and it's not over yet!).

What are you reading?

Lately, I finished the massive science fiction Hellhole trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the fun but poignant Worlds of Ink and Shadow by Lena Coakley, and some new Janet Evanovich fun in Look Alive Twenty-Five. Now I'm exploring a new Sherlock Holmes outing, Unquiet Spirits by Bonnie MacBird, and the intriguingly-told Illuminae by Amie Kaufman. My TBR pile is precariously large as usual, but I'd still love to hear what's on your summer reading list, particularly from marginalized or under-represented voices.

If you'd like to connect on Goodreads, there's a link to find me just a little further down this newsletter.

Bitmoji Image Well, we've reached the end of another newsletter. I've been taking my work to my "outside office" as much as possible as the warm weather endures. The fresh air clears my head, and I've read that a good store of vitamin D may help protect against or ameliorate the worst effects of the virus. Hope you can get outside and get some sun, too! Let's keep supporting each other and working toward better times for all. If you are in a dark place right now, remember that there are many of us who want to help and are doing what we can.

Your support and your thoughts are important to me, so if you have feedback or ideas on what you'd like to see in this newsletter, please reply to this email with your comments. I promise to read them all unless they're boring, nasty, or too long. :)

Feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you think might enjoy it!
