| What is Cadmium? |
| Cadmium is a white metal that is utilized in the electroplating industry for sacrificial corrosion protection on substrates such as steel, cast iron, copper and other metals subject to corrosion of base material. After cadmium plating, corrosion protection is enhanced by applying a chromate to the coating. It bonds within the cadmium plating as well as sits on top which provides a superior corrosion protection layer as well as a cosmetic finish. Chromate conversions can be yellow, clear, black and olive drab in appearance. All with their own unique and performance enhancing capabilities. |

| How do we apply Cadmium? |
| Cadmium is applied through an electroplating process. Parts are placed in a chemical bath using various chemical additions including cadmium metal where current is applied to the part. This current attracts the metal to the part, thus creating a cadmium plated surface. Time and current all play a factor on appearance and deposit thickness. Traditionally cadmium is applied somewhere between 0.0001 - 0.0008” thickness depending on the part, customer and manual specification requirements. |

| Parts ranging from nuts, bolts and washers all the way up to major components such as rotor heads, mast shafts and propeller barrels all utilize the benefits and corrosion protection of cadmium. |

| What are the major benefits to Cadmium plating? |
| The benefits of Cadmium include but are not limited to, superior corrosion protection. Particularly in Aviation applications as well as humid and salt water air situations. Along with strong conductivity and low electrical resistance. Cadmium is also frequently used as a pre-paint step providing an added layer of protection below the painted surface. Cadmium plating also has the capability to resist growths of bacteria and mold over long periods of time. |
