Early Childhood Policy Council’s Workforce Advisory Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting in August

On Thursday, August 6, 2020, the Early Childhood Policy Council held the first meeting of its Workforce Advisory Committee. The committee is chaired by longtime family childcare provider and Early Learning workforce advocate Tonia McMillian, and is comprised of members from a variety of backgrounds across the Early Learning system. Ms. McMillian opened the meeting by sharing about the exciting work that has taken place over the last few years in support of the Early Learning workforce, including the CA Assembly Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education Final Report and Collective bargaining. Lupita Alcala, Director of Education Policy and Outcomes for the Center for Child & Family Studies at WestEd, led a discussion around key topics related to the workforce including unifying professional requirements/standards; education, professional development, and career pathways; compensation; and, improving and supporting operations for home-based providers and centers.

Early Edge California Seeking Members for New Parent Advisory Groups

This fall, we're launching our Parent Advisory Groups to hear from parents and guardians of young children from diverse backgrounds across California. Together, we'll discuss various topics focused on how to best support families during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Help us spread the word! We are seeking parents or guardians of children ages 0–5 in California to participate in our new groups which will be held virtually and available in both English and Spanish. Please share our flyers in English and Spanish with the families you support!
