Funding Opportunities
MRC Experimental Medicine Funding Call
You can apply for academically-led experimental medicine projects, conducted in humans, based round a clearly articulated gap in understanding of human pathophysiology, with a clear path to clinical impact. These grants will produce new mechanistic insights, identifying opportunities to modify disease pathways and enabling novel therapeutic or diagnostic approaches for future development. All disease areas and interventions are welcomed by the Panel.

The application must involve an experimental intervention/challenge in humans, perturbing the system to explore disease mechanism. The challenge may be, but is not limited to, pharmacological, immunological, physiological, psychological, infectious etc.

Please contact Nicola Telfer if you intend to apply.

Closing date: 16 September 2020
University of Manchester-University of Melbourne Dual PhDs
The call is for project proposals to establish pairs of jointly awarded/dual PhD research projects between The University of Manchester and The University of Melbourne. The aim is to support 12 studentships in total (6 pairs of projects), with 6 funded by Manchester and 6 funded by Melbourne.

The jointly awarded/ dual PhD candidates, subsequently recruited to the successful projects, will form the second cohort of the Melbourne-Manchester international research training group as part of the Global Doctoral Research Network (GOLDEN).

The guidelines for project proposals and details on how to apply can be found on the Dual Awards webpage. The contact at Manchester is Sarah James-Ford, Postgraduate Research and Researcher Development Coordinator, Graduate Education.

Deadline for project proposals: 8am 26 October 2020
IADR/AADR William J. Gies Award

The William J. Gies Award is given for the best paper published in the Journal of Dental Research during the preceding year. Nominations are made by individuals, by the Gies Award Committee, and by the Editor of the JDR. Most IADR/AADR awards are restricted to certain disciplines of research, but the JDR Gies Award is one of the few open to anyone who publishes in the Journal of Dental Research.

The Gies Award consists of a $1,000 monetary prize and a plaque which will be presented at either the Opening Ceremonies of the IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition.IADR/AADR members are invited to send nominations for outstanding papers published in the JDR between July 2019 and June 2020.
