Dear FMIS Parents,

I regret to inform you that Markaz-ul-Islam will not be running bus operation for the year 2020-2021 and we ask parents to make arrangements for their child's’ pick-up/drop-off on their own. Markaz-ul-Islam worked tirelessly, going back and forth between directions from the government to safely reopen schools and busing company to arrange affordable busing for FMIS students. However, this year Sparksman had required the following conditions to be met in order to operate:

  • 2-meter distance between kids (only occupy 23 seats out of 47 on each bus)
  • Extra cleaning procedures requiring purchase of disinfecting spray machine

Since FMIS bus is a completely parent-funded service, extra cleaning and reduction of occupancy to half is doubling the per head cost. Quite a few parents have backed out from the busing service and are interested in looking at alternate options which reduce the number of people currently interested in busing, driving the per-head bus cost even further for the remaining parents. As a lot of parents are considering E-cademy and home-schooling this year, our busing service did not receive any over-whelming response by parents to begin with which implies that we would only have one bus for the entire town with route time over two hours for a few families on each side. This urges a few more parents to opt-out of busing, increasing the per-head cost beyond affordability. Therefore, the Board has decided to not run busing operation this year based on parents’ feedback on the general affordability and efficiency of the operation due to the above-mentioned reasons.

Sincerely,

Mohammed Assaf
VP-FMIS
