New WI Copy Fees Update

In previous WHIMA e-Alerts, the new 2020-2021 copy fee rate schedule for medical records from the Department of Health Services was provided. We also reported an error on the new rate for “Pages 101 and above”. Chrisann Lemery, WHIMA Policy and Legislative Team Co-Lead contacted the Department of Health Services regarding this error and was recently notified that the copy fee rate has been corrected.  Please see the entire fee structure here.

CMS Raises Medicare COVID-19 Payments for Hospitals

The CMS announced Monday that it will be raising Medicare inpatient payments to hospitals treating COVID-19 patients by 20% starting next month. Under the new policy, the agency will require positive COVID-19 laboratory test findings in the Medicare patient's medical record, and the agency said it would conduct audits to ensure test results are documented in medical records and recoup excess payments if the test results are not found.

CMS Releases Interoperability Guidance for States

The CMS has released guidance for states to ensure compliance with the agency's Interoperability and Patient Access final rule in the Children's Health Insurance Program and Medicaid. Agencies should review application programming interface implementation guidelines from the CMS and HHS, examine possible contract amendments needed for managed care plans and other entities, and coordinate with CMS Medicaid Enterprise System state officers to address data infrastructure and funding problems.
