Hymn for Sunday August 23 In Egypt under Pharaoh This hymn comments on the Israelites bondage in Egypt. Our lesson tells the beginning of that bondage and continues to Moses birth.
The 1st two lines are - "In Egypt under Pharaoh the Israelites were bound,
From plagues and tribulations no respite could be found." Stanza 2 comments on slavery in the USA - "From Africa to gang-planks, across a friendless sea...." The author, Dosia Carlson (b.1930) is an inspiration to differently abled people. A bout with polio shattered her dream of being a missionary in China. After studying at Oberlin College she went on to seminary, was ordained, earned a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh and served on the faculty of The Defiance College. She is founder of the Beatitudes Center in Phoenix, AZ. Among her many awards are Arizona Woman of the Year and the Antoinette Brown Award for outstanding women clergy. She has published two collections of hymns. Her hymn "Egypt Under Pharaoh" is included in The New Century Hymnal (A.Clyde, Cleveland, OH: Pilgrim Press, 1995).
We will sing this hymn to the tune "Lancashire," which is in our hymnal to the texts "Lead on, O King eternal" and "Go forward. Christian soldier."

While the church building is dark, there is light still shining.
Manna From Seven is still distributing food and some hygiene items on Fridays. They are still providing laundry services and putting food in our blessing box.
