Welcome to the second edition of Pullenvale Post for 2021. In this edition, I want to bring to your attention two Development Applications that have been lodged in the Pullenvale Ward over the past couple of weeks. Both are Impact Assessable meaning that you are able to provide feedback which will be taken into account by Council in deciding to approve or not. I encourage you to have a say and have provided the relevant links on Council’s website to make the process a simple one for you. As always, we welcome your feedback either via reply to this email or by contacting the Ward office directly on 07 3407 0220 during business hours or Pullenvale.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au

DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION
ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT, KENMORE

I’ve been hearing for years about a proposal that included a theatre for Kenmore. Well, it might soon be a reality.

A proposal that includes a theatre along with community use space, a food and drink outlet, short term accommodation, shops and office space has been lodged with Council on land bounded by Brookfield Road and Princeton Street, Kenmore.

OFFROAD CYCLING STRATEGY UPDATE

There has been a lot of interest in Council’s Offroad Cycling Strategy which aims to ensure a balance between meeting demand for safe and accessible off-road cycling and preserving our natural habitats

At the time of writing, almost 2,500 responses have been received. The deadline to provide feedback is next Sunday, February 28th. To read more about the strategy and provide feedback, click here

UPGRADED PARKS IN BELLBOWRIE

Brisbane City Council has delivered new attractions costing more than half a million dollars in two of our parks in Bellbowrie this month.

The new learn to ride bike facility at Kangaroo Gully Road Park had been completed and is already proving a popular attraction for local children.

The bike paths have been well designed with an emphasis on educating children about road rules. It will help prepare them for the different situations they will eventually face on open roads and bikeways.

In addition to the bike paths, Council has installed a new picnic shelter, pedestrian pathways, seating, a drinking fountain and bins, a retaining wall and landscaping works.

Kangaroo Gully Road Park was previously a small playground and picnic facility but had to be removed because the structures had rusted and were no longer compliant with Council’s safety standards.

Council has also undertaken a comprehensive upgrade of facilities at Considen Place Park, as promised in this year’s budget.

This project involved the removal of the old, non-compliant wooden structure and replaced with new playground equipment. The area surrounding it has been turfed and a shade cover will be provided in the coming weeks.

SCHOOL INDUCTIONS

With the new School year now well and truly underway, it has been a pleasure to attend a number of ceremonies this month where School leaders for 2021 were inducted.

Together with State Member for Moggill, Dr. Christian Rowan MP, I was on hand at Our Lady of the Rosary, Moggill, Kenmore South and Brookfield Schools to witness, and in a couple of instances, given the honour of presenting the leaders with their badges and speak about the importance of leadership. And tomorrow it's Pullenvale State School's turn.

Congratulations to all Grade 6 students given the honour to be a leader at their respective schools in 2021.

FEDERAL FUNDS FOR MILL ROAD, PULLENVALE

Rehabilitation work at Mill Road, Pullenvale is among the projects to benefit from a $40.7 million Federal Government investment through its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure programme.

The rehabilitation project will ensure preventative safety improvements for the local community. The existing road cutting is through loose rock which has progressively eroded. Stabilisation works are required to prevent debris from falling onto the existing road which represents a hazard for users.

The scope of works includes embankment repairs along about 150 metres of the road cutting. Construction is expected to commence in May and take about one month to complete.

GRANDVIEW ROAD WORKS

 PULLENVALE STATE SCHOOL

The Schrinner Administration has delivered major improvements on Grandview Road near the Pullenvale School just in time for the new school year as promised.

The kerbing and channeling, together with the provision of additional parking spaces was built in conjunction with the crossing which will soon be managed by a traffic monitor.

This project was the single biggest investment from my Suburban Enhancement Fund for 2020/21 and will help improve road safety around the school, particularly during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.

NEW FOOTPATH IN KENMORE

Work is occurring on the construction of a new footpath in Moonlight Street and Twilight Street, Kenmore.

The project is part of Council’s commitment to provide infrastructure and services to meet the needs of the future and is expected to take three weeks to complete.
Hours of work will generally be between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday however some work outside these times may be required. Council apologises for any inconvenience to local residents while this work is being undertaken.

COUNCIL IN SESSION

Council is halfway through an eight week summer sitting session.

I have had the opportunity to speak on three local issues – a petition for a pedestrian crossing at Brookfield Road, Brookfield; the preservation of the culturally significant birthing tree at Moggill (as mentioned in the previous Pullenvale Post) and the upgraded parks at Bellbowrie (see the story in this newsletter).
