A Love Note from Good is Better

In this love note, meet your August Storytime for the Apocalypse readers, escape to Kcymaerxthaere, read about LA River X alum Margaret Gallagher's creative process, and adore the photography of Lars Bunch. There's also more news about Show and Tell which happens in September. Here's your weekly-ish love note from Dr Tilly Hinton, who you may know from Storytime for the Apocalypse, Nourish Talks, or LA River X.

Storytime for the Apocalypse #10 happens online Monday, August 31st at 7:30 pm Pacific Time. That makes it 12:30 pm Tuesday in Australia, unreasonably early in Europe, and a hundred seconds to midnight on the Doomsday Clock no matter where you are.

Join to hear:
Engineer and Poet Ehssan Sakhaee reading about cause and effect
Education and Equity Specialist Nitasha Lewis reading about being told who you can become
Tour Guide and Los Angeles Enthusiast Tom Sanchez reading about glamor turning to chaos
Actor, Writer, Director Toni Robison-May reading about how hope works

You'll receive the link to attend via email on the day. In the meantime, please tell everyone you know to join this mailing list so that they're invited too. You can also send them to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
The incredibly talented Margaret Gallagher, LA River X alum from back in September 2019, is profiled in a fantastic interview by Arlington Garden in Pasadena. You'll learn more about her meticulous artistic process, the deep connections between art and ecology, and some of what inspires her work. Very excited to see what Margaret's summer residency at the California Botanical Garden brings.
Remember to save the date for a special Storytime Presents event on Thursday 17 September, 6 pm Pacific Time. That's a sultry 9 pm in New York and an easy 11 am Friday brunch in Australia. Chris Schwartz who you know and love from Storytime Episode 9 will be co-hosting Show and Tell. You can read more here, and we'd love to hear from you if you have an object that means the world to you.
If escaping to "an alternative universe that co-exists to some degree with ours" sounds like what you need right now, you're in luck. The uber-talented Eames Demetrios, whose writing featured in Storytime for the Apocalypse Episode 9, has spent almost twenty years building one for you. It's called Kcymaerxthaere, and you can explore it online and in real life across the world through the markers and historical sites. Use this map to find those that are nearest to, and farthest from, you.
Another world to deep dive into is the one captured by Los Angeles photographer Lars Bunch. His monochrome work is evocative, mysterious, and in every way stunning. His takeover of LA River X back in March of this year (doesn't that feel like an eternity ago) was one of your favorites, and it's obvious why that was so. You can follow him on Instagram for photos of the LA River, Los Angeles architecture, peeling paint, and office supplies made more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
