Elementary Team Meeting!

Dear SCM Families,

Life continues to be full of challenges and we are beyond thankful for this amazing community. Like many of you, we have loved ones that have been impacted by the fires and are eager to do what we can to provide support. Please reach out if we can be of support to you and your family. Many of you have asked if we will be delaying the start of school and at this time we plan on opening on September 1st, however we will keep you posted.

It’s hard to believe that all of the staff are returning to school next week to prepare for the 2020/2021 school year! Families will be receiving welcome letters from the class teachers early next week with start of the school year plans.  We are eager to start some visits and it will be delightful to see happy children on campus!

Community Commitment:
Now that we are all about to be together, it is time to re-read and recommit to our Operating Plan. It is essential that our entire community follow the guidelines of our Operating Plan before starting school, and ongoing, throughout the school year. It is imperative that everyone in our community be committed to doing their part to keeping everyone safe. Every decision each of us makes affects everyone else in our community and we need to take all of the health and safety guidelines and protocols seriously, to take care of each other and our special community.

Open Campus Update:
As expected we will begin the school year with the YCC and Primary programs in person starting on September 1st. At that time we will also begin our Elementary and Wavecrest with 100% Distance Learning.

This week we were informed that we would be able to open our elementary and Wavecrest campus to small groups under the guidance of “day camps” and will be considering this moving forward. Our priority continues to be the safety of the children and we feel at this time that we want to do this slowly and with careful consideration. Our hope is to begin with in-person instruction “camp” starting with our first and second years in lower elementary, on September 14th. This would be only for those that indicated that they would be interested in being back on campus. We will still continue to provide Distance Learning for those not interested in returning. Please plan on attending the next Virtual Update on Wednesday, August 26th at 2:00 for more information.

Once again, we thank you for putting your trust in us, and in each other, this school year.

In health and gratitude,
Kim

Distance Learning Plan

As the need for distance learning continues and we prepare to open our classrooms virtually this fall, Santa Cruz Montessori remains dedicated to meeting our mission in new and purposeful ways. As a virtual Montessori learning community, our goal is to continue to inspire a love of learning, create community connection, and support the development of the whole child. As Montessorians, we are uniquely positioned to observe, assess, and adapt to the needs of our students and families. We offer a safe and loving online community in which children are supported, challenged, and guided to grow, learn, and connect with one another and the greater community and world as possible. We acknowledge that supporting the whole family is a crucial part of our distance learning program, and commit to educating and collaborating with students and parents to create a supportive and loving community for all.
