With the start of the school year, our first-ever virtual Summer Library Program has ended. Thank you for making the Library a part of your summer! Here are just a few of the activities and accomplishments you told us about on Beanstack:
- Spun a skein of yarn, folded books into words, learned to embroider, finished two quilts, made a lot of masks, and painted a lot of rocks.
- Made an arc welder out of microwaves, built a chicken tractor, and learned to use a chop saw.
- Watched Hamilton. A lot of Hamilton. Welcome to the Hamilfam, Platteville.
- Learned to floss (the dance, not your teeth).
- Had a pie making contest and invited the neighbors over.
- Read a lot of books on Libby and Overdrive.
- Ate beans, beets, kohlrabi, lettuce, cucumbers, peas, kale, potatoes, spinach, corn, zucchini, and a lot of tomatoes from Farmers' Market, Amish food stands, and your own gardens.
- Held a virtual baby shower, went camping with family, and called your mom.
- Made a COVID time capsule.
- Enjoyed Music in the Park, drank a lot of coffee from Badger Brothers, volunteered at Ruby's Pantry, and walked and biked every inch of the Rountree Branch Trail.
We're amazed by your creativity and commitment to our community as we adapt to the changes 2020 has brought. We are pleased to offer you a fresh slate of virtual programs and new service updates, and we hope you find this month's newsletter exciting and informative!

Interlibrary Loan Service Update
At this time, our five-county library system has begun van delivery service again between all our member libraries. Quarantine time for all items is built into this service, so your requested items will not come as fast as they used to. However, they will be sent! Please check our library website for the most current hours of operation and instructions on how to pick up your library items once you have been notified they are here for you.
Library loaning statewide is still getting restarted. Not all libraries are open yet and some libraries aren't loaning items at this time. Please fill out an Interlibrary Loan slip (available from the Ask desk at the library) if you cannot find an item in our catalog holdings. Staff will do their best to find out if the item can be borrowed. New and bestselling items will not be sent. The turnaround time for out of system items is going to be longer than before due to quarantine times between systems. Please be patient as processing and searching will take longer.
Questions? Call 608-348-7441 ext. 4.

Amanda, Library Page: If you don't mind a dark police story and a good scare, I highly recommend The Outsider by Stephen King. Don't let the author intimidate you; this was my first King read and it was surprisingly approachable. Once you're done with this page-turner, be on the lookout for the HBO adaptation with Ben Mendelsohn leading a stellar cast.
Erin, Youth Services Manager: I recently selected Over the Edge by Brandilyn Collins from Wisconsin's Digital Library. I enjoyed it with the Libby app and also on my Kindle with Overdrive. This Christian fiction book is a medical thriller with twists and turns that keep you guessing. It is a "pulled from the headlines" page-turner about Lyme disease. It is also a story about finding the faith to make it through each day.
Karina, Patron Services Manager: Sometimes a book just finds you at the right time. For Every One by Jason Reynolds was a book like that for me. Originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, this poem serves as a reminder that dreams take so much time and work, and that it really is okay for everyone's dreams to look different. Pretty standard self-help stuff, but because it's Jason Reynolds, the writing also makes you remember what good poetry is again. Forget Oh The Places You'll Go (sorry, Dr. Seuss) and try this one as a graduation gift instead.
Molly, Circulation Assistant: The Biggest Little Farm is a documentary about a California couple and their adopted dog, Todd. After determining that they need to move, they purchase a neglected, run down farm and we learn along with them how every aspect of bringing this lifeless farm back to health is very much interconnected. Truly inspiring and engaging... borrow our library’s copy... you won’t be disappointed!
