A late summer update
Tomorrow is the beginning of week 3 in a 12 week class I'm taking in Neuromuscular Cupping Techniques. Looking forward to learning some new tricks and treatments! I'm enjoying learning from home instead of having to travel, though the whole zoom-call thing isn't my favorite LOL. So far, I have bought a bunch of new cups for the body & face and have learned a new, high-level disinfection protocol for cups as an extra safety precaution. This week starts the good stuff... treatment protocols! Starting tomorrow with shoulders & I can't wait!
As far as general updates:

I'm still waiting for various supplies to arrive. Between the pandemic and the current administration's interference in the operations of the USPS, shipping is taking foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever. Meanwhile, I'm busy rearranging the office and getting things better set up to mitigate risk of COVID transmission when I reopen. I have been asked a few times why I haven't reopened when so many others have. It's a multifaceted answer, but the bottom line is that I have too many clients with too many risk factors to rush to reopen before it is considered safe by scientists, not just by politicians.

The main criteria I am waiting for are a two week ongoing drop in cases, for the r value to stay below 1.0, and for the percentage of positive tests in SE WI to stay at 5% or less. Positive rates & drop in infections are pretty self explanatory. The r value, if you haven't heard of it, measures how quickly the virus is spreading Above 1.0 indicates rapid transmission, below 1.0 indicates slower spread. For more information on r- values, this is a short article that explains things in an easy to understand way: https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52473523

Currently we have hit one out of the three target numbers I'm looking for. Here's an article explaining some of the numbers I've been watching as well as others necessary to safely reopen a state:   https://www.vox.com/2020/5/28/21270515/coronavirus-covid-reopen-economy-social-distancing-states-map-data

I know a lot of people have their own opinions about when it is safe to return to my office and "normal life". I'm getting my information & criteria for safely reopening from reputable, credible sources such as the WHO and CDC. I was able to have a one on one conversation with a PhD virologist studying COVID at the University of Washington recently, which was very helpful in refining my protocols for reopening, cleaning/disinfecting, and screening clients. He answered many questions and offered a lot of valuable feedback, which I greatly appreciated. There is a lot of anecdotal information circulating as fact, especially on the internet & social media. It was really good to get solid information from someone who is 100% focused on studying this particular virus.

Another thing that goes hand in hand with the new cupping training is the use of Synergy Stones. They can be used heated or chilled, alone or in conjunction with cups. I am very excited to introduce them into my practice.
You are going to love them!

That's all I have for updates at the moment. Looking forward to seeing everyone as soon as safely possible!

I hope you are all doing well & staying safe and healthy,
Amy
