Friends, hello.

Recently I was sitting with one of my brothers in law, a person I've known for 33 years. I was having one of the instantly deep talks one cannot (and wouldn't want to) avoid, with him. There were a lot of questions and pauses.

I expressed a concern, and he said with urgency, "Well what you've gotta do is [audible exhale] I don't know what you gotta do." His turnaround in awareness and his unintentionally comic timing were exquisite to me. In this tenderness and laughter, my Mid Year Resolution arrived. So far, it's coming in very handy.

We've been stuck in a very difficult web for months now. Each of us in a different position, all in the same sticky web. It's a web that's been spun for many hundreds of years, and that's gaining stunning dimensions and extremity in this incredible year. To which I say:

"What we've gotta do is [BREATHE] I don't know what we gotta do."

There are a few things that seem clear. We'll be on wildly shifting ground for a time that is going to seem very long. We're just getting our feet wet. We're going to need to keep letting go and adjusting. A fluid, good-willed, graceful, and learning response is being unequivocally required of us all. Leaning into our supporting practices and communities feels like pretty much the only way we're going to have a chance to find the human response-ability that's desperately needed, and the stamina to stay with it all.

As we approach September, I will offer what I can, borrowing spirit and courage from wise ones who have so much to teach about this time of trouble. From the great Alice Walker:

The world has changed: it did not change without your prayers without your faith without your determination to believe in liberation and kindness; without your dancing through the years that had no beat.... Though we have encountered our share of grief and troubles on this earth, we can still hold the line of beauty, form, and beat. No small accomplishment in a world as challenging as this one."

Hard Times Require Furious Dancing: New Poems

So. Let's do what we can. Let's ease, fuel, cleanse, stretch and really check ourselves on the way, so we can move on down the road in good ways.

A first layer of autumn offerings is detailed below. We'll see how these initial plans work for our community. I'll refine as needed. Further layers of ongoing practice groups and workshops will probably sift in. I'll be in touch. Feel free to reach out to me anytime.

May we meet in the dance and in our broader community,
Chantell

Way of the Wave class will revive on Thursdays starting September 17th.

A teacher-supported practice that actively invites you to enter awareness in and through free-form movement. A drop-in community 5Rhythms class, no previous dance or meditation experience required. I will offer lots of space in a zone of attention and presence, using 5Rhythms form and freedom.

All genders, all cultures/backgrounds/religions, all life stages, all states of health and (dis)ability, and all sizes warmly welcome. Chairs available for seated dance.

To be able to enjoy classes, we must do some simple things:
You’ll be signed into each class individually by our crew.
We'll follow extra cleaning measures and have hand sanitization readily available for you.
We'll have limited attendance and extra air flow in the large space. Bring extra layers to move in. The floor won't be freezing but it won't be cozy. It will be well-aired.

By entering class you are agreeing to gracefully give others at least 6 feet of space for the entire class and while in the dance venue.
If you choose to get close to others or touch, please limit this to off premises, out of the group, and after class.

Outdoor classes at Providence Farm Festival Field return.
Sundays September 6, 13, 20, 27, w
eather permitting!

If it's settled into raining when you need to leave for class, class is cancelled. If the forecast is for possible-probable showers, class is on.
I will announce cancellations here and on my Facebook group.

Being together in one space, in the freedom of a meaningful movement practice, is a privilege. I’m pleased to offer 4 more outdoor classes before summer’s end, on our huge grassy dance floor under the mountain. All genders, all cultures/backgrounds/religions, all life stages, all states of health and (dis)ability, and all sizes warmly welcome. Chairs available for seated dance.

First come, first served. Door closes 11 a.m.

$16 cash/cheque
If you have an existing 5-class pass, you can use it.
14 and under: $8 per child.
If you choose to bring children to these outdoor classes that's okay, on the condition that guardians are keeping children in your charge physically with you and well-distanced from other dancers - not cruising the field. If this turns out not to be possible for the children (since this is a BIG and probably developmentally impossible ask for most non-adults), you'll have to move on.
