Isolation Emancipation:

Songs of Isolation & Freedom

The pandemic has seen months of isolated practicing and lost performance opportunities for musicians around the globe. WAYJO is excited to finally present this concert, working on themes of isolation and freedom that musically express what many have been feeling since March.

Songs like Thad Jones' Ah-That's Freedom and Jim McNeely's Desperate Times will be matched with A Night In (Tunisia) and Don't Get Around Much Anymore.

Come and celebrate how lucky we are in WA, and once again experience the joy of live big band music with the WAYJO Tuesday and Wednesday Night orchestras.

WAYJO Goes Underground

New Concert Series with Open Jam to hit Lyric’s Underground

Introducing WAYJO Live @ Lyric’s Underground, a series of jazz concerts followed by a jam session held first Sunday of the month at Lyric’s Underground – a stone’s throw from 8th Avenue and Maylands train station.

Combining concert and open jam session offers much needed opportunities for live performance, while encouraging up-coming musicians to learn more about jazz, and form new connections through the art of musical improvisation.

Starting September, ‘Live @ The Underground’ Sunday sessions feature a guest act on stage 7.00pm for 1-hour, followed by an open jam led by the band from 8.20pm.

Lyric’s Underground is your newest destination for bohemian jazz vibes in the heart of Maylands - one of Perth’s emerging cultural centres. Sunday Session tickets are just $10 at the door... get in early!

Lyric’s Underground is near 8th Avenue and just off Guildford Road - Downstairs, 22 Lyric Lane, Maylands WA 6051.

A Night of Jazz Royalty

WAYJO’s Downstairs at The Maj Return

Throughout jazz history a handful of musicians claimed their kingdom. Masters of their domain, this jazz royalty changed music forever. All hail the jazz!

King Oliver presided over New Orleans in the early 1900s. The Duke and The Count developed big band music into the sound we hear today. Benny Goodman, the King of Swing, ruled with an iron clarinet over the 1930s, while Ella Fitzgerald was crowned the Queen of Jazz with a career spanning six decades.

As humble subjects, the WAYJO MinterEllison Monday Night Orchestra & Tuesday Night Orchestra pay their respects, presenting the very best from all these artists. Come along and hear why these artists are still considered Jazz Royalty.
