We Need Your Help to Set our Future Vision

and to Fine Tune the Design for East Freo Oval

Hello everyone,

Greetings on this gorgeous Spring day.  Earlier this week I was out and about filming a video in downtown George Street, and in it I invite each and every one of you to help us set the future vision for our Town.  There is a series of workshops happening in September and October where we need your input to ensure that our Strategic Community Plan, which is our ten-year plan that sets our future direction, is in alignment with your needs, values and aspirations.  To have your say, read on to find out how to RSVP for an event or to complete the online survey.

We are also running workshops in the next four weeks to finalise the design of the East Fremantle Oval redevelopment. Read on to find out more.

It is a busy and exciting time in the life of our Town, and we look forward to engaging with you to ensure that we as your elected officials, and the administration, have our goals in sight and services in place to keep our Town growing, prosperous, vibrant and safe.

Kind regards

Jim O'Neill

Help Finalise Designs for East Freo Oval

The redevelopment of East Fremantle Oval is reaching an exciting phase and we need your help to ensure the design is the best it can possibly be.

In August, the Town hired a multidisciplinary design team to take the early designs to the level of detail so that when the funding is sourced for the project that work can begin.

To ensure that we have got the design concept right, and that it meets community needs and expectations, we invite you to attend a series of events.

Design workshops:

Wednesday 23 September 2020: 3.30pm – 5pm  register now,

Library Services Secured for Residents

East Fremantle residents will be able to access the complete range of services available at the Fremantle Library under a shared services agreement signed on Friday 4 September 2020, including to the new Library when it opens next year.

“This agreement is a great result for our Town”, Mayor O’Neill explained, “as they are able to access an exciting range of print, online, early childhood literacy services and digital services at the City of Fremantle Library, but at a fraction of what it would cost us to create such services locally.”

Town Recognised for Water Saving

The Town of East Fremantle was recognised last week for its efforts in water conservation when WaterCorp's Louise Vaughan visited us to present our WaterWise accreditation certificate.  Louise (pictured left next to Town CEO Gary Tuffin) complimented the team on efforts made to adjust water use including at the Town's parks and reserves.

The Town will now focus on doing even more to conserve our precious water resources, aiming for 'gold' accreditation in 2021.  This is part of a range of environmental and conservation measures currently underway.

It's the Talk of the Town!

The Town's latest print newsletter, named Talk of the Town, is now being printed and will be delivered next week to all homes and businesses in East Fremantle, and a digital copy is also available.

Keeping Verges Clear

We take this opportunity to remind residents and businesses that a Council permit is required prior to anything being placed on a roadway or Council verge within the Town.  We have been receiving a significant increase in the number of complaints pertaining to unauthorised skip bins and sea containers being placed on either the Towns roads or adjacent verges resulting in:

  • reduced sightlines of oncoming traffic for drivers exiting or entering adjacent driveways,
  • vehicles being forced to drive on the incorrect side of the road on or near crests or curves in the road, in order to pass unauthorised bins,
  • unauthorised skip bins or sea containers unlawfully placed directly over fire hydrant hatch covers,
  • verges and verge trees damaged due to incorrect placement or duration of the skip bin or sea containers stay on the verge,
  • damage to roadways, curbing and footpaths due to incorrect placement, incorrect weight,
  • unlawful positioning of skip bins or sea containers within 10 metres of intersections,
  • at some locations the placement of either skip bins or sea containers narrowing the remaining roadway to such a point that trucks and other emergency service vehicles cannot travel past the obstruction safely.
  • reduction in parking space.

Failure to request and receive a valid permit prior to having a skip bin or sea container placed on a Council road or verge can result in the issuance of a $300 infringement notice to both the hirer and supplier of the skip bin or sea container.  Adhering to the permit process ensures the safety and amenity of the area for all residents and visitors to the Town.

Parking Untethered Vehicles Safely

Residents are encouraged to ensure that they park untethered vehicles (such as caravans, boats and trailers) correctly.

A new Fact Sheet has been developed that provides guidance on where to park your untethered vehicle within your property boundary so that it does not present a hazard.

To view our other Fact Sheets on various topics, visit our website.
