Upcoming Immigration Dialogue + New October Tele-Mental Health Training

Next week, our team is looking forward to hosting our first ever Immigration Dialogue, co-hosted with representatives from the RAICES Family Detention Team. In this webinar, we will be talking about the current state of immigrant family detention in the U.S. and discuss what we can do as a community to support asylum-seekers. These dialogues will feature a different set of speakers and will be hosted every third Tuesday of the month. There's still time to register if you're interested in attending!

Because of the demand for our free trainings, we’ve begun accepting suggested donations of $10 per training. We hope that by raising some money we can potentially offer these sessions more frequently. There is still time to donate funding to our upcoming Immigration Dialogue as well! To learn more about sponsorship, visit the Donate page on our website.

We're excited to share with you several other training and volunteer opportunities happening in September and October, including a Conducting Tele-Mental Health Assessments for Immigration Cases training on October 7th. Read on to discover how you can get involved in our upcoming work.

We hope to (virtually) see you soon!

Sincerely,
Ana Vidina Hernández,
Girasol Program Coordinator

The Social Work Detention Response Team is a group of interdisciplinary teams of social work and law students orient migrants to the credible fear interview and asylum system, assist in their preparation for the interview, and provide emotional support to women and children undergoing this process. The team also goes on two trips to the border yearly to assist asylum-seekers at the Texas-Mexico border. While we cannot go to the border or to detention centers currently, we do have current online volunteer opportunities, see below:
