Dear Neighbour,
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, an international awareness day commemorated every year on September 10th. One death from suicide is one too many. It's not always easy to identify the signs, which is why it's important to check-in with your family and friends. Ask them how they are, how they're feeling. Stay informed. If you or someone you know is struggling, it’s important to reach out for support. For more information and for available supports visit: http://ontario.ca/mentalhealth.

The majority of students in the Toronto Public and Catholic boards will return to school beginning next week. This year is different, and given the circumstances the government is ensuring layers of protection to keep children, staff, and parents safe. The government has invested an additional $1.3 billion to allow for a flexible and safe reopening of schools.
I want to take the time to wish all Ontario students including the many in Eglinton-Lawrence a happy back-to-school. Have a safe, educational, and fun 2020-21 school year. You are our future. Continue to strive and aim for success.

HIGHLIGHTS
PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT
|
|
- The Ontario government is providing an additional $3 million annually to better support people with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The funding will be used to raise awareness, better coordinate services and expand and enhance supports for children and families impacted by FASD.
- The Ontario government has gradually reopened all 24 provincial centres for apprenticeship and trade-related certifications, based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and provincial health authorities. Apprentices and skilled tradespeople can now book their final exams at their local apprenticeship office.
- As students, teachers and staff return to school, the Ontario government is providing up to $1.3 billion in critical supports and has delivered more than 37 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) to safely reopen classrooms across the province. These investments are part of Ontario's comprehensive back to school plan which was developed in consultation with medical experts, school boards, and educators.
- The Ontario government is providing $650,000 to One Vision, One Voice, a community-led project that supports the delivery of culturally appropriate services for African-Canadian and Black children and youth in the child welfare system. The funding will be used for pilot programs to help youth stay connected to their communities, which is a key commitment of the province's strategy to redesign the child welfare system.
