This week on our Facebook Live show: diaphonized rats!
Diaphonization is a chemical process where the flesh is made transparent by soaking in a protein-eating enzyme, and the bones and cartilage are colored by calcium-seeking dyes! This method of preparation was invented in the 1970s by biologists who wanted a way to study animal anatomy that left the skeletal structure intact. Diaphonized rats are an awesome example of this weird and wonderful procedure!
