NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEAD TEACHER - Mrs Gail Holmes

We have had a wonderful first week back, the whole staff have been so incredibly proud of how well the children have returned to school this week. The children fully embodied the foundation of the schools ethos this week. Being Ready, Respectful and Safe

Ready – The children have all been ready and eager to learn. They have come into school beautifully and settled back into the school routine with ease. The children all looked incredibly smart in their school uniform too, especially our youngest children and new starters in Reception. Well done!

Respectful – The children have shown great respect in every sense of the word. Respecting each other, their environment and respecting all the changes and additional procedures implemented throughout the school.

Safe – It is our highest priority to keep everyone safe. The children have been amazing and taken on board all the new safety measures in place. They have taken great care to ensure they keep each other safe by following the new procedures brilliantly.

Thank you parents for following all the new procedures for drop and pick up. This has worked really well; you all helped this to run so smoothly from day one. Thank you.

After the Fall
This week many of the classes have been looking at the book ‘After the Fall’ by Dan Santat. It is a beautifully illustrated book about how Humpty Dumpty got back up again. It follows Humpty Dumpty, an avid bird watcher who loves to be high up on the city wall. However, after his fall, Humpty is terrified of heights and can no longer do his favourite things. He finally pulls together the courage to climb back up the wall. After the fall is an inspiring picture book that we hope will encourage our children to overcome their fears, learn to get back up—and reach new heights. We know our children have faced many new challenges this year but we also know they have and will overcome them too. We want the children to keep focused on their brilliant super learner behaviours – resilience, reciprocity, reflectiveness and resourcefulness as they come back into school and reach new heights with their learning.

New Government Guidance
As I am sure you are all aware, there are new government guidelines in place from Monday 14th September 2020. Please click on this link for further information and useful FAQ’s related to the new guidance.

A reminder of the new government campaign as we head into the winter months is hands, face, space. Please ensure you maintain social distancing when you are waiting outside the school gates at drop off and pick up.

Covid-19 symptoms
I know it is tricky as we move into the winter months to distinguish between the normal seasonal coughs, colds and illnesses so below is a reminder of the symptoms to look out for regarding coronavirus and what to do if you or your child has any symptoms.
Check if you or your child has coronavirus symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), get a test as soon as possible. Stay at home until you get the result.
Main symptoms
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
What to do if you have symptoms
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
  1. Get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible.
  2. Stay at home and do not have visitors until you get your test result – only leave your home to have a test.
Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home until you get your result.

As most of you are aware, we are now up and running with the new School Money System and you should all have received a text and email with your user id and password.
As before, all school meals will need to be booked online from Monday 14th September 2020.  Well done to all the parents who have already booked their children's meals in advance.  We have been informed by users that this system is more parent friendly and easier to use.
You will notice that we have had to streamline our menu.  There will be 4 choices, main meal, vegetarian meal, jacket potato or baguette.
If you have not received a text or email, please contact the Admin Office with your up-to-date information.

BREAKFAST CLUB
Breakfast Club is available Monday - Friday from 7.40am - 8.40pm.  This will need to be booked online, using the new School Money System.
The club is held in the 'old Tiddler' setting at the top of the playground.  Access will be through the side gate of the school, following the one way system, then across the playground.
KS1 pupils will be escorted to their classrooms at the end of the session, and KS2 will follow the one way system back to their classrooms.
Each session is £2.25.  Please book online by 5.00pm the day before, so a register can be printed off and passed to the Breakfast Care Leader for the next morning.
If you have any queries, please contact the Admin Team.

Tempest photography will be in school on Friday 25th September to take individual photos . Unfortunately, due to Covid19 they will be unable to take any family group photos. The photography area will be thoroughly cleaned between bubbles.
Tiddlers is now being run in the Tiny Tiddlers building. We have a fantastic new and improved outside space and still have a few spaces available if you require one.
You can check if your child is entitled to the 2 year old funding or the extended entitlement of 30 hours for 3+ years at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

We will be having the flu vaccination team into school during the morning of  Monday 7th December 2020 to see all children between reception and year 6, this will be administered adhering to all up to date Infection Control, PPE and social distancing guidance at the time.

Flu vaccination is one of most effective interventions we have to reduce pressure on the health and social care system which is going to be more important than ever this year.  For this reason, it is essential we deliver the vaccine to as many children as possible to prevent the spread of infection to those most at risk in society.

In light of the above we are expecting demand to be high and therefore we urge you to follow the below link to consent to your child’s vaccination now if you have not already done so. You will also find answers to your FAQ’s on this link.
