Sept/Oct 2020 Update

The past 6 months have been unprecedented and we hope that your neighborhoods have weathered the storm.  Please read below for important information about the City of McKinney and how you can re-engage your neighbors.

Neighborhood Services Update

As soon as the pandemic was declared, Neighborhood Services embarked on designing and coordinating an effort to call our city's citizens (65 and older) to check on them and make sure they were aware of the www.oneheartmckinney.com website where they could find resources.  The project contacted over 7,000 households. We had 8 churches and 3 nonprofits who assisted those that were in need.

In addition, we have been working with the team who is supporting the Emergency Housing and Living Expenses Grant offered by Collin Cares.  This program offers rent and mortgage assistance along with assistance for food and utilities to qualified residents who had a 25% or more reduction in income due to the pandemic. If you know of someone in need, please direct them to:

We are continuing to update the Resident Resource Dashboard and assist HOAs and homeowners with issues in the neighborhoods.  Be sure and reach out if you need something!

Events and Classes

Out of an abundance of caution, the McKinney Police Department is canceling this year’s National Night Out. It was set for October 6, but instead of getting together for neighborhood block parties (of which last year McKinney had a record number!), we are instead encouraging you to turn on your porch lights and, if you would like, decorate your yard with signs, blue ribbons and positive messages on that date as a way to show your support for the community and the Police Department. You can even let us know by sending your photos or videos to MPDPIO@mckinneytexas.org.

Last year, McKinney placed 11th in the nation, according to National Night Out! We are looking forward to trying this again next year! Be well, and here’s to 2021!
