City Updates

Mayor's Office

Mayor Papenfuse has announced “Grab & Go Treat Night” in celebration of Halloween in the City of Harrisburg.
City officials will be giving candy to the little ghouls and goblins while adhering to social distancing and other precautions. The City will not be holding a traditional trick-or-treat night this year, as the CDC has designated trick-or-treating as a ‘high risk’ activity. More information on this is available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/holidays.html#halloween

Reverse Holiday Parade Application Deadline is October 9

The City of Harrisburg will be holding a Reverse Holiday Parade on Saturday, November 21 from 10am-12 pm on City Island. In a reverse parade, the parade entrants are stationary. Rather than large groups of spectators gathering along City streets, they will drive by the parade entrants and remain safely in their vehicles. The parade is free for both parade entrants and attendees.  The 2020 parade theme is “Hometown Holiday.” A best in theme award will be offered for the winning entry group that shows what makes holidays in the Harrisburg area special to them. Parade entrant groups will be assigned a space a minimum of 25 feet from other groups and a safe distance from any travelling vehicles. Groups are not permitted to disburse candy or other items to cars, but can choose to provide 150 giveaway items for inclusion in the goodie bags that will be disbursed to attendee cars. Parade entry is free and the application deadline is October 9. Sponsorship opportunities are also available on our website. While the parade format has been modified, we look forward to keeping the holiday spirit alive for children and their families.
