Is it time to dab?

By David Wylie

Cannabis concentrates are upon us, as a new category of legal weed products begins to grow.

Here’s a brief Q&A guide to what’s in store…

What are concentrates?

Concentrates are more intense than hitting a joint or taking an edible. The high is unique, more of a rush.

How do I use concentrates?

A dab rig is used to smoke cannabis concentrates such as rosin, shatter, diamonds and resin.

You often use a butane torch, similar to one used to make crème brûlée. There are other e-rigs that eliminate the need for fire. Designer rigs are appealing to the collector types.

Where can I buy concentrates and accessories?

Concentrates are starting to appear in greater volume and variety at your local legal cannabis store. They also carry dab rigs and other tools needed for the process. Your neighbourhood head shop also sells accessories.

How much does it cost?

Partaking in this way does require an investment. The right tools include a torch, a rig, and a banger. A locally made handcrafted dab tool is a nice touch. Expect to at least shell out a couple hundred bucks. Concentrates will set your back about $50 a pop (and up) from what’s currently available.

Should I be scared to try?

There is reason to approach dabs with reverence. A few people have taken hits too big and come back with their own war stories. This is worth a read.

Martha Stewart CBD gummies

Martha Stewart says she likes to use cannabis to unwind.

She wants others to give it a try.

The 79-year-old who rose to fame as a domestic maven is partnering with Canopy Growth to launch a line of CBD wellness products for people and pets.

“I’ve found that CBD supplements are a simple way to enhance my own health and wellness, especially when it comes to managing the stresses of daily life,” said Martha Stewart.

“I set out to create the most delicious CBD products on the market, drawing inspiration from some of my favorite recipes and flavor profiles from my greenhouse and gardens. My wellness gummies closely resemble the French confections, pâte de fruits, rather than the sticky, overly sweet versions you might find elsewhere.”

The Canadian-based company officially announced Martha Stewart CBD on Thursday, a day after presenting at a major global investment conference.

Canopy said Stewart collaborated with its cannabinoid scientists to create the products.

They are made in the U.S. with hemp-derived CBD isolate.

Canopy Growth CEO David Klein said the partnership is intended to gain consumer trust, “which is why we’ve chosen to collaborate with Martha Stewart, someone who people turn to for advice on living well.”

Limonene & Sparkling Tonic by HEXO

By Jenny Neufeld

With a name like House of Terpenes and its handsome glass bottle this beverage gives off classy adult vibes.

The flavour, as alluded to in the name, is a lovely lemon with herbal undertones. As with most 2.0 products there is that bitter aftertaste but it does not detract from the experience as it is not overpowering, it is well balanced.

The balance also extends to the THC and CBD content, with 5mg of each. Because it is 1:1 I was not anticipating much of a high but I found it set me up for a wonderful evening of relaxation.

After enjoying the subtly sweet sparkling lemon water, I was in the perfect headspace for some meditation and music appreciation. Though I could have just as readily slid into easy conversation with my partner.

I am curious whether there is any real amount of limonene in the product, which is said to have anti-inflammatory and anxiety reducing properties, or if they just are using the terpene’s flavour profile for inspiration.

Whether it has any limonene in it or not, I would definitely recommend this drink as a treat at the end of a long week. At $7.99 per bottle you certainly are treating yourself in comparison to other beverages on the market. But I am sure some more will make their way into our refrigerator in the future.
