A New Paradigm of Church
A paradigm is defined as a typical example or pattern of something. It is a way of looking at something and easily identifying what it is. Paradigms provide a sense of normalcy to the routine of our lives. When there is an aberration in the paradigm or a disruption of it, we are disconcerted until a new normal is established and patterns once again provide the needed relief to our confused psyches.
The current pandemic is upending our usual ways of doing things, from greeting family and friends, to shopping at the corner store, working, spending a day at the beach, or attending Mass. Challenged to adapt to a new reality, we have had to sort through what is truly important in our lives. We have discovered new ways to do those things that matter most to us and, in the process, let go of those things that at one time had meaning, but no longer do. We have seized the opportunity to be forward-thinking since the future that awaits us will be far different than the world that heretofore shaped our perceptions and guided our actions.

In his Wednesday, September 9th homily, Fr. Yesalonia asserts that there is no "other place to preach Black Lives Matter [than behind the pulpit]. It's the only way in which I understand, which I ask all of you to understand, what it means to love one another. ... No other race in our country has been treated in such a despicable fashion from the moment they set foot in our country."

The "Messiah Complex" says, "My loved one is lost and it's my job to save them." There is only one entity, however, with the power to save, and it's not you! We explore some manifestations of the complex and ways we can begin to move on from this unfruitful way of relating to others.

On Sunday, June 7th, Fr. Yesalonia announced an ambitious expansion of our livestream capabilities at the parish.
By the fall, we will have the capability to livestream Sunday Mass from Church. Additionally, screens will be installed in the Church and so that pre-recorded music can be broadcast into the Church during services.
Eventually, services and events will be livestreamed from the Lady Chapel, the Church, and Wallace Hall.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul's Christmas Angel project, a beloved tradition where SIL parishioners purchase gifts for a sister parish in need, will be happening this Advent. The program will have a different look and feel this year.

During this program, interested individuals have the opportunity to inquire into the Catholic faith, to come to know Jesus through the Gospels, to pray, and to prepare for the Easter Sacraments. This process is also open to Catholic adults who have not received the Sacraments of First Communion or Confirmation.

International Coastal Cleanup Day NYC

Meet-up Location: Holy Name Church steps at West 96th Street & Amsterdam
Join the Metro NY Catholic Climate Movement and spend a few hours protecting nature. Work in teams to pick up plastics and debris along the Hudson and record the items collected.
Materials will be provided, but wear closed-toe shoes. Masks must be worn and gloves will be provided by a New York City Parks Department official. Social distancing is required.
This is a family-friendly event for children 6 years old and up.
