ASCEND Scholarship Program
The ASCEND (Advancing STEM-Community Engagement through Neuroscience Discovery) Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to Wilkes Honors College students who demonstrate a passion for advancing neuroscience research and brain health, paralleled by a desire to challenge and educate young minds. The goal of this scholarship is to develop well-rounded, skilled, and committed individuals who are motivated to engage in community education and outreach. The Wilkes Honors College Community Engagement Scholarship provides financial assistance to Wilkes Honors College students who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to serving non-profit and community organizations. Students who have completed at least one semester of study at the Wilkes Honors College may receive up to $5000.00 in scholarship funds to be applied toward their tuition and fees during an academic year. Scholarship recipients will be required to complete a minimum of three credits (180 hours) of internship work with an approved non-profit or public organization. You can find information on the approved organizations and how to apply here. This scholarship has a rolling deadline but applications will be processed as they are received so apply early.

Thursday, September 17th @ 6:00pm: Constitution Day 2020
Constitution Day 2020: The role of the Judicial Branch and Exercising your Constitutional Right to Vote. Panelists include Justice Barbara Pariente (Supreme Court of Florida 1997-2018), Judge Cymonie Rowe (Florida’s 15th Judicial Circuit), Judge Daliah Weiss (Florida’s 15th Judicial Circuit), and Prof. Mark Tunick (FAU Honors College). In addition to providing a concise background on the role of the judicial branch in our constitutional system of government, the interactive presentation will highlight past and current controversies over the right to vote, and Justice Pariente will explain the events surrounding the 2000 presidential election in Florida, where the outcome was decided by fewer than 600 votes, and relate her experiences as one of the Justices hearing the dispute between Bush and Gore as to whether the votes were being fairly counted.
