The Faith+Race team invites you to a discussion of the movie I Am Not Your Negro, a 2016 documentary based on James Baldwin's unfinished manuscript Remember This House.

The film explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin's perspective of civil rights leaders, American history, religion, and inequality. It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards and won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary.

Free to watch with membership on Amazon Prime and Netflix. $4 to rent on Youtube.

How do I participate
Watch the movie in the week prior and join the discussion night!

Questions to consider while watching:
- Which historical figures’ stories were new to you?
- How has the media you have consumed shaped your views on race?
- How similar and how different were the three main characters- Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and Medgar Evers?

Volunteer at Bay Area Rescue Mission
Each day we are still attempting to meet the needs of those we serve which has increased greatly during the pandemic. The amount of food we are distributing to families in need has superseded all previous records in the Mission's 55 year history. Knowing the needs families would have who have lost income, we again coordinated a Back-to-School Drive and are in need of assistance with Assembling and Distributing the backpacks.

We have coordinated volunteer opportunities with COVID-19 and Social Distancing protocols in place and are hoping you or someone you may know may be able to assist us.

Assembly Day, Thursday, September 10, 2020 and Distribution Day on Friday, September 11, 2020.

If you'd like to help, contact Jodie at jodie at solanochurch.org.
Thank you for reading Solano's weekly newsletter. We hope the information here enables you to get connected and helps us all to grow together into a community of Christ followers who make loving God and neighbor an everyday reality.
