Meet WHIMA member Melissa Metz! Some may know Melissa for her participation and leadership on the WHIMA Membership Engagement Team. During our interview with Melissa, we learned more about Melissa’s education, experience, WHIMA membership and volunteerism.
Melissa works for Inclusa as a BI/Data Analytics Product Owner. She has also served as an IT Security Analyst for Inclusa as well as for Security Health Plan. Other past positions include being an Epic HB Applications Analyst for Aspirus, a Revenue Cycle Business Analyst for Marshfield Clinic Information Systems, and a Patients' Access Representative for Ministry Health Care. In 2020, she joined Mid-State Technical College as an HIM Adjunct Instructor.
Melissa holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Information Technology and Health Information Management from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. She also has a Master’s of Science in Healthcare Administration from Valparaiso University.
WHIMA asked Melissa to provide three words that describe what WHIMA means to her. Melissa replied collaboration, education, and professional development.

CMS' Final Inpatient Payment Rule for 2021: 7 Things to Know

CMS released its annual Inpatient Prospective Payment System final rule Sept. 2, which raises Medicare payment rates for acute care hospitals.
The rule, which affects approximately 3,200 acute care hospitals, applies to discharges occurring on or after Oct. 1, 2020.

New ICD-10-CM, PCS Guidelines Effective Soon

Revisions to ICD-10-CM effective Oct. 1 include 13 new guidelines related to COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2 infection reporting, one new guideline for coding vaping-related disorders and eight updates, including for assigning codes for social determinants of health and the use of injectable non-insulin drugs in people with diabetes. Updates to ICD-10-PCS include guidelines for bone grafts and excision or resection and replacement of body parts.
