New Ricardo Flores Magon Academy building almost ready

Demolition of the academy's old building is almost complete! The school will soon occupy its new quarters, which were made possible by a $15.5 million grant from the State Board of Education’s Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program.

Currently RFMA is offering remote learning for the first quarter through October 16. They will continue to discuss what the rest of the fall semester will look like with medical leaders, families and their team. Enrollment is still open for the 2020-2021 school year.

Be sure you can cast your vote this November 3. Have you recently moved? Is your voter registration up to date? Do you need to request an absentee ballot? Check out Regis University's Voting Resources page (not just for college students!) to help you navigate these steps, answer your questions, and ensure your voice counts in November.

Did You Know?

You've still got time to complete the 2020 Census. Everyone – babies, students, immigrants, unhoused neighbors – living in the United States is counted once every 10 years. The population results determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated for our communities' schools, roads, housing and health needs. These numbers also determine the number of representatives in the U.S. Congress for each state. Raise your hand for the count.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Art Walk North Denver:
A hyperlocal event for the Regis neighborhood

First Friday art walks have been a tradition in Denver neighborhoods for years. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, brought an abrupt halt to such community events, and has had a significant impact on local arts organizations and individual artists. Enter Jill Carstens and her brain child, Curate Locally, where the Regis neighborhood is able to celebrate and support art created by our neighbors.

The Art Walk North Denver has an authentic, eclectic feel as local artists of all mediums set up on sidewalks, front yards, and front porches—painters, photographers, sculptors, chefs (hello, food trucks!), crafters, and even musicians share their creations with passersby. Everyone wears masks and is reminded to socially distance, but in the age of coronavirus, this practice has not dampened the community camaraderie but has proven to foster community and connection, exactly as Curate Locally intended.

The next Art Walk North Denver is Saturday, October 3 from 3 to 6 pm, located generally between Lowell Boulevard. and Tennyson Street, 48th Avenue to 52nd Avenue. Check into the Curate Locally website for a map of artists’ locationsphotos of past walks, and potential specials offered by our local small businesses along Lowell Boulevard.
News of Note: Music in time of coronavirus

Have you been hearing music emanating from the Regis campus of late? Your ears have not been deceiving you. One of the University's steps to help keep its students safe on campus was to erect a large tent in a parking lot off Lowell Boulevard for instrumental music and choir classes. 9News stopped by and broadcast this report.
