Hello All,

Some of you may have noticed that our new BEA website is now up and running at www.berwickea.org . Do send us any feedback about using it and any suggestions for what you might like to see on it in future. Our thanks are due to the BEA committee who have been meeting to plan it for the last year, chaired by Martin Laidler, and especially to Cian McHugh for setting it up for us. We'd also like to thank Barry Tymon, our original webmaster, for his valuable contribution in creating and running our previous website.

BEA is still looking for a volunteer science programmer, and a volunteer treasurer - please get in touch at berwickea@gmail.com if either of these roles interest you, and we will be happy to tell you what would be involved.

We are reviewing whether to organise more film lectures and would value your feedback, whether you have participated in the film lectures or not. This will help us to plan the kind of film-related talks and courses which would attract wider support. It's a very short survey and we'd much appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete it, so that your views are represented through feedback. OCTOBER:
Prof Maria Chester concludes her series of lectures on the Americas with 'American Civilisations: before 1491 and after 1493'. These ten lectures will look in depth at how things were before and after Spanish intervention in 1492. The sessions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4pm beginning on October 6th.

Prof Mike Worboys begins an exciting new series of talks discussing how some cornerstone concepts manifest themselves as fundamental in a range of cultural practices, with a focus of music, mathematics, and religion (particularly, Zen Buddhism).
