Keep Making September Count!
Week 2

Hi, <<First Name>>,

Hope you have had a good first week of September. As the opening of the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations approaches, we are anticipating an eventful month ahead filled with opportunity to bridge the gap between governments and global civil society’s vision for the “Future we want, the United Nations we need,” as articulated in the UN75 People's Declaration and Plan For Global Action.

Civil society’s constructive voice needs to be heard and included by protecting the fundamental freedoms of assembly, association, and expression. Shrinking civic space worldwide, including at the United Nations itself, and the rise in oppression, intimidation, and threats against civil society must be reversed.

We call upon the UN and its Member States, heads of state and government, civil society organizations and other stakeholders, elected representatives and all citizens to take bold action based on recognition of our shared destiny, and to work to create global institutions that reflect and respond to this reality.

Have you responded to the UN75 survey yet?

As the UN engages in large scale consultation, through online dialogues, formal opinion polling and media analysis, to mark its 75th anniversary, you can make your voice heard by participating in the UN75 survey and ensuring specifically that civil society inclusion, and particularly the proposal for a civil society focal point, is shown to be of key importance.

Protection of Young People in the Civic Space Survey

Survey commissioned by the UN Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth (OSGEY)

Since young people between 18-29 years old are often overlooked in relevant reports, we are in a process to identify the specific challenges, barriers and threats that young activists face, especially when defending human rights, mobilizing communities or acting as peace building agents. Our aim is to formulate appropriate guidelines and recommendations to various stakeholders about how to better protect young people in the civic space.
