Hello Niwot Families!

A big thank you to everyone for your support with the i-Ready testing. The students did an outstanding job this week with the reading portion of the test. Next week the students will be doing the math portion. Thank you for your support with this important assessment so we can best learn how to meet the needs of your child. We realize and respect it may be difficult to refrain from helping your child when they are asking questions about the test. In order to get an accurate interpretation of specific skills, we ask you to please let the student answer the questions independently, to the best of their ability. If we tell students the answers it will modify teacher groups and instruction. This will be a disservice to your child.

There have been a lot of questions around insurance for iPads. Although the middle school and high school offer this, it isn't something done at the elementary level. These iPads are considered classroom iPads. We're sending them home now during remote learning, but we expect they will eventually come back to us and live in the classroom.

A reminder that there is no school on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend and see you back online Tuesday morning at 9:00am.

Be Safe and Be Well,

~~Nancy Pitz, Principal

Next Week at a Glance:

September 11:  i-Ready Math for 1st-5th

A reminder that students will be doing i-Ready Math testing next week. Please see this link for the important information that was sent out last week to all parents. Thank you for your support with this very important assessment.

We are thrilled to announce that the curbside library is now open for book check out! Please follow the instructions on this tutorial to place books on hold. Once your books are ready, you will receive an email from the librarian. Book pick up will be every Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. Books will be checked out and placed alphabetically on tables in front of the school. Our first pick up will be Friday, September 11th for those that receive an email that their book is ready.

If you have library books that are still checked out from the spring, please return them at this time.

Book Quarantine Process:

When books are returned on Fridays, they will sit in the bins for 72 hours before being reshelved. I will be wearing a mask and gloves when I pull your books from the shelves.

If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Chen at chen_andrea@svvsd.org.

We urge all parents to review and update their information in Infinite Campus so that we have the most current information for your family on file.

Each year St. Vrain Valley School District completes a process to identify students in grades K-12 who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic or talent areas and may therefore qualify for Gifted and Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s) and require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas. Nominations need to be submitted by September 30th. Please note: not all students will automatically go into testing as historical data is closely looked at.  Also, if your child is already identified you do not need to nominate them.

Meet One of Our Newest Staff Members --
Madeline Keen: 5th grade teacher

I was born in Longmont, Colorado.  I  attended Northridge Elementary and Lyons Middle/Senior High. I stand with St. Vrain schools and I have bought into their goals of educating the future generations.  I moved to Greeley and lived there for six years. I attended the University of Northern Colorado where I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language. I began my career at Bella Romero Academy teaching 7th grade math and science for two years.  My experiences there shaped me into the educator I am today which will, in turn, benefit every student I get to teach this year and in the future.  Outside of the classroom,  I enjoy exercising, playing volleyball, spending time with my fiance and my family, watching sports, and enjoying the outdoors in our beautiful state. My fiance and I enjoy competition.  We play in volleyball tournaments together.  We play a variety of card games, and race each other on mario kart. Some of my other favorite things include Chai tea, chips and salsa, pineapples, and my puppy, Kona.  I am getting married on September 25th of this year.  My last name will change from Keen to Cangilla.  No need to worry, I will still answer to Ms. Keen as there will be an adjustment period for all of us.

The social emotional needs (life skills) of your students are important to us. Every year, the counseling program addresses social/emotional, academic/learning, and college/career needs through whole class, small group, and individual formats. This year, the school counseling program (Mrs. Izzy and Mrs. Zeranski) is requesting you complete a Needs Assessment of your students' social emotional needs and academic/learning behaviors to best inform the school about how to support you and your child for a successful year. Please fill out the Parent portion of this form and assist your child(ren) in completing the Student portion (If you have multiple students you can skip the parent portion for your additional responses as all questions are optional).

Filling out the needs assessment does not mean your child will participate in counseling and we will always get verbal or written permission for individual and group counseling activities.
If you or your student have more immediate concerns and need support from the counselors, please fill out our referral form located on our counseling website
