Dear Kerugma Supporter,
We have come to the point where we realize that we can no longer postpone implementing plans to have continuous electricity supply for Kerugma’s edit systems and internet during load shedding. (For our international supporters we just want to mention that our national electricity supplier is under severe constraint because no maintenance was done since 1994). According to experts this situation will still continue for at least the next two years. While stage 4 load shedding caused us to be without electricity two to three times a day for two and a half hours at a time, it became almost impossible to do our work. And it seems likely that we have to brace ourselves even for stage 8 load shedding.
Since the COVID lockdown in March this year, we uploaded an English and Afrikaans DVD for free viewing on Kerugma’s website, to offer people all over the world an opportunity to listen to the Word of God on a regular basis.
We always wanted to make the DVDs available to the viewers at no cost, but could never afford to do so. The “lockdown” has given us the opportunity to take this step in faith. The result is that many who would not have known about these DVDs, are now watching them. We do not know where this is leading us, but we know that the Lord led us to do this. We trust that many will learn to know Him through the videos and that his children will be equipped to serve Him better.
Initially we thought to offer the DVDs on the internet, at no charge, for only three weeks. As you are aware it is now months since we began the process. This has proved quite a challenge but we are dedicated to the task and will continue with the task in hand. With the slow internet speed in our area it takes about 6 hours or even longer to upload one of these DVDs.
This brings us to the problem with the latest load shedding. Our edit suites, which work many hours daily, are huge computers consuming a great deal of electricity. And on top of that it is impossible to upload a video during the short interval between two periods of load shedding. We also have frequent power outages here in Pearly Beach because of the winter storms in the Western Cape, often leaving us without power for a day or two. Because of this it is really very difficult to continue with the work.
We ask you to please pray with us for the Lord’s guidance as to the best option for alternative electricity and for the necessary finances to install it. Using a generator is not an option as the noise will make it impossible to edit the audio of the videos.
As a faith-based venture we are totally dependent on the Lord for everything that we need, to be able to complete His work. In light of this we ask that you pray for us as we seek the Lord’s direction and provision in this urgent matter.
