From Our Christian Education Committee

Dear Congregation,

Over the past couple of months the Christian Education committee has been in discussion with our Sunday School teachers, parents, and trustees to work on ways to resume Christian education safely at Trinity.

We have decided that for the time being it will be best to not have our normal Sunday School hour. We plan to meet in November to discuss the issue again.

However, we were saddened thinking of our children missing out on not just their Christian education but also the interaction they have with their peers and the mentorship they receive from their teachers. So we have devised an exciting interim Sunday School plan. This will be a shortened time of 30 minutes and will take place 15 minutes after the service ends. See below for all the specific logistics and safety details for each age group.

We encourage the adults to continue the fellowship times you have been having and/or to meet in the social hall for a prayer time led by the Venters. You may also be called upon by our elementary teacher, Linda Tilton, to make use of your acting skills - you have been warned!

We look forward to what will take place over the next few months and ask for your prayers for our students and teachers.

The Christian Education Committee
2’s and 3’s:
Class will begin on the 13th of September with Mrs. Bacon and Mrs. Smith. They will meet in their classroom. Please have your children use the bathroom and wash hands prior to class beginning. We ask that the children wear masks. Toys will be removed, and seating will be rearranged to provide appropriate distancing. Chairs, crayon boxes, etc. will be assigned and will be used by the same student each week. The classroom will be sanitized prior to and after the children meet.

PRE K-6th grade:
The class will meet on the 13th of September for an orientation time, but the actual curriculum will begin on the 20th of September. Students will be following Christian on his journey in an exciting adaptation of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress. The group will be led by Linda Tilton and Meghan Briggs. We hope to meet outside on the manse lawn, weather permitting. We ask that each family bring a beach towel or yoga mat to sit on for comfort and to aid in keeping distance between each family group. We will not be requiring masks when outside. If the weather is not as we would prefer, then the children will meet in the largely-emptied conference room remaining in their family bubble. When inside, masks will be worn.

If we find that the curriculum is too difficult for our pre k/ks, then they will meet inside for a lesson taught by Yosief Woldegebriel (room assignment pending). Masks will be worn when meeting inside, and toys will not be made available.

JUNIOR HIGH and SENIOR HIGH:
Josaias Ribeiro will be teaching our pre teens and teens in the far corner of the parking lot. They will be using the study “Superheroes Can’t Save You” as they explore how Jesus really is all that the Bible says he is. We will rope off the area. Please bring a camping chair to sit on. Masks do not need to be worn but social distancing will be practiced. If the weather is not as we would prefer, then the teens will meet in the largely-emptied elementary room (all dividers opened) remaining in their family bubble. When inside, masks will be worn. Class will begin on the 13th of September.
