👋🏾 Hey From Colorintech - #019

Lots of tools and thought leadership in this edition in which has been a quieter news week in the world of tech.
🗞️Diversity and inclusion news🗞️
😲Working from home is better for men than women😲

We've long suspected it, but now there is data to validate that suspicion🤔
  • 57% of men compared to 29% of women — say that working from home has positively affected their careers, according to a recent study from Qualtrics,
  • 70% of men say their productivity has increased since the start of the pandemic, compared to 41% of women
  • 26% of men with children at home say they've earned pay raises while working remotely, while only 13% of women with children at home say the same,

🙌🏾Atomico's Commitment to Diversity🙌🏾

🥳We're super proud to be kicking off a partnership with Atomico (A major European VC fund) to support the ecosystem of diverse entrepreneurs. One of the reasons we are chuffed to be partners is because they move beyond words with actual action. The team is quite humble about it, so we will shout about all they do for them📣!

👀We're starting to see more orgs also be transparent about what they do too, with Professional Services giant PWC release their first report inclusive of ethnicity however, as this article in the MIT Tech Review points out, all orgs still have a way to go to get underneath the underlying causes of Discirmination (in this example racism)

Finally, for those who don't know where to start, this viewpoint in Sifted caught our eyes Time to scrap the Diversity committee😶
🧠Things that make you go hmmm🧠
📲Tech stocks📲

It was earnings call week over the last couple of weeks and therefore a very good time for investors of Zoom (up ~40%), Salesforce (up ~25%) Docusign (~20%) and a range of other SaaS (software as a service) companies.

Nonetheless, it wasn't all plain sailing as the end of the week, there was a pullback with those very stocks and the NASDAQ, in general, sliding back down to ranges between ~5 and 10 % or so🧐.

Why... well simply, there were spooks that with an election, the rampant bull run of tech stocks (and therefore the increased concentration of the general performance of the market because of these very stocks) and the suspected overvaluation (compared to traditional methods, of companies like Zoom).

So what?: The looming political elections may make markets a tad more volatile. Whilst many can see the underlying reasons business like Zoom or Docusign are appealing (when's the last time you signed a paper contract or had a face to face meeting😅), there are concerns from the finance folks that at valuations 45 times sales (DocuSign) to an astonishing 115 times sales (Zoom) they may be overvalued.

🖥️Fake news 🖥️

This week a report came our letting us know that Africans had a trust issue with Facebook because of the proliferation of Fake News. We doubt this is a distinctly African issue, given this week Facebook itself decided to ban political ads in the week of the run-up to the USA's election day.🤔

Nonetheless, if Joe Biden's attempts to infiltrate all ways of life with political campaigns (as seen in Animal Crossing) wasn't enough, the team at Microsoft have helpfully swooped into the realm with what seemingly will be a helpful Deepfake detector🤖.

So what?: Tech will probably play a pivotal role in our understanding of the world (true or false/ intentional or not) over the next few weeks🤨

🔊Remote startup Perks🔊
