Issue 19

Hello <<First Name>>,

Creation and Celebration are common themes this week with care and Christ being at the centre of both.

Taking care, so the Sacraments may be celebrated with our school children.
Taking care of creation, so our children can continue to celebrate all it represents.

Taking care, that Christ is at the centre of all we care for.

Tell a friend (or stranger!) about this e-letter and encourage others to sign up here so they too can be connected.

WEEKEND LITURGY

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Restorative justice is: a justice that seeks not to punish, but to heal.
A justice, according to Kay Pranis [1], that is not about getting even, but about getting well.
A justice that seeks to transform broken lives, relationships, and communities, rather than shatter them further.
A justice that seeks reconciliation, rather than a deepening of conflict.

“The world needs forgiveness; too many people are caught up in resentment and harbour hatred because they are incapable of forgiving. They ruin their own lives and the lives of those around them rather than finding the joy of serenity and peace.”
(Pope Francis in Assisi in 2016).

His point is that those who do not forgive, who hold on to resentment, hurt themselves almost as much, even if they are unaware of it for a while.  Matthew's teaching, this weekend on reconciliation and forgiveness is rich and down-to-earth.  There is no doubt in the parable in the Gospel, those who do not forgive, who hold on to resentment, hurt themselves almost as much, even if they are unaware of it for a while.

Our capacity to practice forgiveness is linked to our capacity to receive forgiveness [2].

PASTORAL AREA NEWS

Attending Mass
A reminder to all that booking is essential for attending all masses. As we continue to gather for Mass, please see details here which will help continue to make it a positive and prayerful encounter for all present.
We Can’t Do It Without Your Help…
We need people to help welcome and gather people at each Mass as they arrive and as they leave and these then to help sanitise and prepare the space after each Mass in order to have it ready for the next liturgy taking place. If you can give some time, even once a month, please complete this form and we will be in touch with you. Thank you.
Sacramental Ceremonies
Congratulations to those from Kilcoole Primary School and St. Brigid's National School who will make their First Holy Communion this weekend. Congratulations to those from St. Kevin's National School and St. Laurence’s National School who will be confirmed in their faith this week. Please remember them all in your prayers.

The Sacramental ceremonies for the parishes of Greystones and Kilquade are being live streamed so as to enable family members, who cannot be physically present in the church for the ceremonies due to COVID 19 restrictions, to take part in a meaningful way.
Click here for details of the links for the different ceremonies this week.
PHOTO CALL!

All those who made First Holy Communion or Confirmation are invited to
send in a photo of the special occasion.
We will make a collage of images on the websites, so the Pastoral Area community can share in your special moment. Remember to ask permission of the people in the photo and tell us your name and your school.
(If Fr. John or Fr. Gerard are in the photo, you already have permission to send that one in!)

A Prayer for the Anniversary of 9/11

As we look back and recall where we were, who was with us and how we felt that fateful day, may those vivid memories compel us to acts of kindness, words of love and demonstrations of community.
May the myriad of images of helpers – firefighters, police officers, pastors and ministers, office workers, ordinary citizens – be the icons that inspire us to be helpers, too.
As we consider that autumn day years ago, grant us the ability to cling to the examples of goodness that emerged out of the horror:
May the acts of mercy emulated in our lives be the ripple that reverberates through history, revealing your sure power to bring redemption, reconciliation and resurrection out of the depths of death and despair.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
