With our partners, our team at CVS Falkirk is currently working to gauge interest in bespoke cyber resilience training for the local third sector.
The training would focus on working at home and the cyber threat regarding this practice.
Sessions would be open to any local third sector group or organisation (including charities, social enterprises, community and voluntary groups, and will be held using an online video format.

Camelon Juniors Football Club has shared update on the recent fire deliberately set on their grounds:
The club has thanked Police Scotland and the local communities and businesses for their support during this time.
The GoFundMe page set up on the club's behalf has also surpassed its target of £2,000; however, the fundraiser is still open for anyone who wishes to donate, and can also be shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Each year, 10th September is marked as World Suicide Prevention Day, where organisations and communities raise awareness of how we can create a world where fewer people die by suicide.
For 2020, Public Health Scotland has launched a new campaign: United to Prevent Suicide.
United to Prevent Suicide is a social movement of people from across Scotland, united in a shared belief that everyone has a role to play in preventing suicide.
They have released a new website, and a free stakeholder guide (with branding guidelines and resources) and media images. Individuals and organisations can sign up to the movement via the website.

For Scotland’s Climate Week (taking place Monday 14th September - Sunday 20th September), the Central Scotland Regional Equality Council (CSREC) has organised a series of online upcycling and climate conversation workshops.
The workshops aim to encourage people to tackle climate change, with the full schedule below:
- Monday 14th September: Fabric Upcycling – Flip t-shirts into tops
- Tuesday 15th September: Chair upcycling, including reupholstering
- Wednesday 16th September: Chat and Sew
- Thursday 17th September: Climate Café – Getting to Net Zero

Places are now available for PATH (Scotland)’s Developing Management and Leadership Skills (DMLS) for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities programme, which starts in October.
This year’s programme will be delivered online via Zoom. The half-day sessions will be held fortnightly October 2020 – May 2021. Additional online sessions will be held June – September 2021.
The DMLS programme will examine power inequalities, the impact of racism on our culture, and enable participants to recognise and further develop their skills and abilities as managers and leaders.
The programme is free to attend, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) is holding a myth-busting Zoom webinar exploring the employment barriers faced by people with learning disabilities, and how employers can help to overcome these.
The webinar takes place on Wednesday 16th September, 10am – 11am, and is aimed at (amongst others) people with learning disabilities looking to start work, employers, and staff supporting people with learning disabilities in the workplace.
Attendees will hear about how employers can help people with learning disabilities to use their skills and talents to secure and sustain employment.

The Massive Get Together is an online fundraising event aiming to raise £500,000 for 10 UK charities through event ticket sales.
On Thursday 17th September at 8pm, viewers can enjoy an evening of entertainment, including performances of pop hits, classical music and comedy.
Money raised will support the following charities: Marie Curie, The Children’s Trust, St John Ambulance, Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), Volunteering Matters, Fare Share, Thames Hospice, Love Your Neighbour, Crisis and The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
Tickets are £10 each.

Glasgow Council for Voluntary Services (GCVS) are holding a series of online conversations titled, “Our World Reimagined (OWR): Big Ideas for a Better Future”.
The first conversation, on the topic of “Collective Leadership”, will take place online on Friday 18th September, 11am – 12pm, via Zoom. This conversation will be led by Janet Whitley, head of Scottish Government’s Collective Leadership Team.
Janet will discuss her interest in how to effectively deploy participation in collective leadership practice across organisations, and how best organisations can come together to help resolve complex issues faced.

As lockdown restrictions ease, Strathcarron Hospice has announced that their Compassionate Communities Team can offer befriending opportunities for those who have been shielding.
The team can help people reconnect with their community after lockdown, offering support for those who have been shielding and need some help to build their confidence in returning to pre-COVID-19 activities and routines.
Strathcarron hope that this opportunity will make a huge difference for those feeling nervous about getting back out and about.

Amongst their other services, the Wise Group is involved in supporting Home Energy Scotland and its advice centres, which are currently offering Get Ready for Winter support.

The Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) is currently working to gather lived experience to inform Scottish Government’s new Women’s Health Plan, with a short online survey.
The Plan aims to tackle women’s health and inequalities by raising awareness around women’s health, improving access to healthcare for all women at all stages of life and reducing inequalities in health outcomes for girls and women.
The survey has been developed to seek the views and experiences of women in Scotland to help to inform the Plan.

As part of our focus on the recovery phase, we are highlighting third sector providers of PPE and other safety equipment, including St Andrew’s First Aid, which has released their new, free First Aid Kit Guide.
The guide aims to provide organisations with all the information they need to make an informed decision on first aid supplies and equipment for their workplace, group or facilities. This may prove especially useful to those reopening premises and offices after lockdown.

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, all third sector forums held at our office are cancelled until further notice.
Instead, the next meeting of the online COVID-19 Third Sector Response Forum takes place on Wednesday 16th September, 3pm – 5pm, and can be accessed via the Zoom link, or with the meeting ID: 963 2261 5679 (password: 171199).
The meetings are currently focusing on recovery and renewal. Minutes of previous meetings are available on the dedicated forum webpage, along with any additional documentation.

This week’s Funding Insight Bulletin is now live!
The insight bulletin is generated by the Grantsonline Funding Portal, the UK's most comprehensive and up to date UK grant funding information service.
Features include a range of funding opportunities and sources groups and organisations in Falkirk can apply for. Some are open to any type of group, whereas others may feature certain restrictions; for example, certain funds may only be open to applications from registered charities, or groups with particular areas of work or geographical area.

The deadline for applications to the 2021 GSK IMPACT Awards has been extended to 10am on Monday 21st September.
The awards provide core funding and free training for charities working to improve people’s health in the UK, and give organisations access to a free leadership programme, designed specifically for health charities. Up to 20 awards will be made, ranging from £3,000 – £40,000, plus free training and development valued at a further £9,500.
To be eligible to apply, organisations must be at least 3 years old, working in a health-related field in the UK, with income between £80,000 – £2.5 million.

The next round of the Catalysts for Change Fund opens for applications on Monday 21st September.
Supported by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) and the National Lottery (TNL) Community Fund Scotland, the fund offers grants up to £5,000 for projects led by community nurses who work with the local community to improve the health and wellbeing of marginalised groups.
These projects might directly address community responses to COVID-19 (such as psychological trauma (toxic stress) made worse by the pandemic), or they could incorporate any nurse-led initiative to improve health equity.
The deadline will be in late November, and confirmed after the round opens.

The National Lottery (TNL) Community Fund Scotland has announced their current funding programmes will remain open for an extra 18 – 24 months, though they will be adapted as needed.
They were due to pause and redevelop their funding offer this year, as it reached the end of its 5 year cycle. By remaining open for applications, they hope they can better support the third sector through COVID-19 and recovery.
Some grants and funding will remain unchanged, while others will be adapted to be more focused on recovery, with shorter grants and quicker turnarounds.

Our team at Volunteer Falkirk would like to invite you to join our upcoming “Pop-In” remote volunteering support sessions – each session will be a space for creating, developing, adapting and troubleshooting all aspects of your volunteering programme.
The first session will be held on Friday 25th September, 1pm – 3pm.
Each session will be held on Zoom, with a slight difference to the format to other Zoom meetings you may have joined, to allow you to maximise your time and avoid “Zoom burnout”.
We have been embracing the challenges of working throughout this period of lockdown restrictions, along with the rest of our local third sector, and we want to try something new that will help you to carve out time to get to the pieces of work that are most essential to you, your organisation and your volunteer programme.
Whether your volunteers have been helping throughout the period of COVID-19 lockdown, have recently returned to their usual volunteer tasks as lockdown restrictions have eased, or you are still working towards this, we would like you to join us.

Volunteer Scotland is holding a review of the current Volunteer Friendly Award (VFA), in partnership with Volunteer Dundee, Dundee Voluntary Action and Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs) across Scotland.
They would appreciate hearing thoughts and ideas from a range of different volunteer-involving organisations and groups regarding VFA. They have created 2 surveys to gather this information:
- one survey for organisations and groups who have already achieved, or engaged with, the Award
- one survey for those who have not yet been involved

Experience of delivering groupwork sessions focused on soft skills, employability skills such as job interview techniques, CV building and job search techniques, is essential. They are looking for calm and confident individuals who have experience of working with participants.
