Tropical Storm Laura
A little over a week ago, Tropical Storm Laura was hovering over Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Haiti.  The winds stood steady at 150 miles-per-hour, and the rain was non-stop, creating muddy flooding and difficulty.  Over 20 people died in Haiti from the storm.  Our hearts are with Haiti and those who were affected by the storm; those who lost a loved one or lost part of their livelihood.

Visit to Haiti

We were so grateful to finally have access to Haiti last month.  After seven months of having to stay away, we stayed very busy on our visit!  During what was the hottest weather we've experienced in Haiti, we checked on the farmland (it was doing great! Unfortunately, we did lose some crops from the tropical storm).  We were also able to meet with many of the school students' parents.  We were touched at the appreciation shown for the sponsorship program.  One parent stated “the job market is closed and without help we would not have been able to send our children to school.”

We wanted to pass that "thank you" on to YOU.  YOU are the reason those little kids can go to school.

School has just opened up again in Haiti, but it is a continuation/completion of last year's education.  The new school year will begin in November.
While the feeding program never stopped, it has grown to its capacity once again now that school has started.  Every child attending school participates in the feeding program, setting the numbers at 600 kids!
While in Haiti, we purchased supplies and set up hand washing stations that are now used at both of the schools and at the feeding program.
We also met with our sewing instructor about the upcoming year, our attorney in Haiti to touch base, had a board meeting with our Haitian board, and met with the agronomists to discuss the farm.  Our agronomists have been working to make the land wildly successful.  We saw sweet potatoes, manioc, sugar cane, corn, peppers, spinach, and pumpkins while we were there.  It definitely helps having the impluvium filled with all the rain Haiti has been getting.
The storm did take a toll on some of the crops.  Luckily many are still doing well.
Lastly, we visited the orphanage in St. Rock.  The orphanage has been suffering structurally.  Despite the condition, we believe seeing those little kids and sharing love with them is important to the heart, theirs and ours. ❤️

We also got to meet the new baby for our on-ground leader in St. Rock.

Meet Dave!

(Some of you may have actually met him recently.)  Dave is a really great young man who has worked hard to get into, and attend, college in Haiti, while also excelling in the English program in St. Rock.  When Dave came to the US to get a much needed surgery that couldn't be done in Haiti, he decided to join the Pathways Program through BYU-Idaho.  This affordable program helps students prepare for earning a college degree, which he hopes to have as his next step in the US.  Dave is a hard worker and an all-around great person.  He went on our last trip to Haiti and finally got to visit his family after waiting so long for travel to re-open.  We couldn't be more proud of Dave.  He is inspirational to us and we feel blessed to have had so much time with him lately!
