Summer 2020 - Art and Social Activism

I trust everyone is healthy and safe.  Unlike last summer where we were busy running around the country, this year was quite a bit different.  The slowdown has given me the freedom to explore not only new mediums, but to also develop my body of work.  I really do miss getting out and meeting new people, connecting with fellow artist and of course my work as an activist in the Opioid Crisis.
I had several Museum showings lined up for late 2020 and 2021 that were either postponed or cancelled all together due to budgetary constraints.  Although this has been  a minor setback I am grateful that my family has remained healthy and safe during these unprecedented times.

In this newsletter I have chosen to share a little behind the scenes photos of my work in the studio.

First of five layers of silicone rubber applied to my new sculpture
A foam and clay mannequin was made to mold the clothing onto. Gallons of starch were used to stiffen the clothing.

As we all continue to face the realities of these strange and challenging times we must remain positive.  While we all struggle to navigate an uncertain world during this pandemic, we must remember that mental health issues are exacerbated by isolationism.  My latest work in charcoal.  "Searching", 30x40 inches,  Charcoal on vellum paper.
September is Recovery Month
and leading up to it is Overdose Awareness day on August 31st.
The day is primarily a day to remember all the precious lives lost to the opioid epidemic.  The Honor Signature Spoon was hosted in Rochester New York for a vigil on Overdose Awareness Day.

Proud to announce that my work will also be represented by the gallery InSight Artspace in New York City and that we are working on a virtual gallery show for the fall.  More details to follow.

Some of my artwork can now be seen on Artsy and Kooness

Boom!! Just like that I turned 50 last month.  Not really a big birthday person although half a century seems like a major milestone in life.  I am grateful for all the wonderful and loving friends I have made along the way, and of course I am grateful for my beautiful family.  Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
Finally,  I leave you with one of my favorite quotes.
