September 2020 - Vol. 1, No. 9

Prep sports returns...Part Deux

It has been an interesting month. I would also like to say it looks like things may be getting back to some semblance of normalcy but I’m almost afraid to do so.

North Moore, Pinecrest, and Union Pines have taken full advantage of the increase in the number of student-athletes participating in Fall workouts.

All three athletic directors are operating on a color-coded work-out schedule that involved two days a week with alternating Fridays. On October 5, volleyball and Men's and Women's cross country can practice five-days-a-week, if they so chose.

Here's also hoping that North Carolina state leadership decides to move the state into Phase 3 and not Phase 2.75.

Forward this email to someone hopeful we can make it to November.

Vikings release football schedule

Some folks are calling it Spring football but in my mind, it's Winter football and it's coming in 2021.

Winter officially begins Monday, December 21, 2020, and ends Saturday, March 20, 2021.

That means four of the seven games the Vikings will be playing are in the Winter. Heck, we all know that late March and early April can be a little chilly so it might as well be called Winter football.

So, combing the best of two popular television shows, "Game of Thrones" and "Vikings," I came up with the graphic above.

It has already debuted on my social media platforms but you are welcome to share the graphic on your own social media channels.

Five Points Horse Trials

The Five Points Horse Trials were held Sept. 5-6 at Carolina Horse Park and I was once again on assignment for ZUMA Press.

Nearly 300 hundred entrants attended this event on what turned out to be an almost Fall-like weekend, weather-wise.

Parting Shots:

Steady in the saddle

In the images above, Andi Lawrence, riding Cooley Northern Mist, begins her entrance into the Lighthouse water complex at the cross-country event during the Five Points Horse Trials, Sept. 5, 2020, at Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, N.C.

Upon landing in the first of three combinations, Lawrence is nearly unseated as both feet come out of the stirrups.
Lawrence regains her seat in the saddle while making a second attempt at the B jump. She and Cooley Northern Mist would successfully traverse the B and C jumps and finish the course.
