Supporting Community Engagement & Student Success

President's Message:  Monday, September 7, 2020
Dear Lowell Students, Families, Staff, and Alumni,

As we approach Week 4 of the Fall Semester, I hope we are all feeling a bit more settled.

Although this isn't the way we had hoped the academic year would start, the Lowell PTSA remains optimistic in the possibilities that a new school year brings. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine 2020 would turn out the way it has, or that so much of life would be built on such unpredictability and full of so many challenges. We are living in uncertain and strange times and we are learning a lot about what is “essential”. Public Schools have long been “essential”, providing education, meals, and so much more to our communities. And yet, they have been defunded, under appreciated, and overlooked. In no other part of our society do we expect so much and provide so little. Even with this reality, l still have an overwhelming feeling of hope and promise for our students.

Over the Summer and in the past days I have had the opportunity to work with dedicated students, parents, alumni, the Administration, and staff, and while the future is uncertain, what I do know is that the Lowell Community is filled with people who care deeply for our students. Dedicated Lowell High School PTSA volunteers spent the Summer working on the online B2B Lowell Bookstore, attending PTA Trainings, moving textbooks, developing our first ever Legislative Advocacy Committee, and more!

Like everything else in 2020, the PTSA will work differently than in past years and we encourage all families, teachers, staff, students, and community to share your time, talent, or resources to help us build better. Please JOIN US!
Our first General Membership Meeting will take place on September 9th, from 6p-8p. At the meeting, you can meet our 2020-2021 Board, hear from Principal Dacotah Swett, learn about the exciting programs our Committees have planned, and vote on our preliminary budget for the year (for active members), and you can keep up with PTSA activity via the weekly email blast we will begin sending to all members.

On behalf of the 2020-2021 Lowell High School PTSA Board, we look forward to Supporting Community Engagement & Student Success with you!

In Community,
Tiffany M. Abuan
