3. VP Pence speaks in pro-life event at North Carolina church

Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a “Life Wins!” pro-life event at Christ Baptist Church on Thursday (Sept. 3). The two-hour event was part of a multi-state tour organized by the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life advocacy group.

5. Pro-life advocate Abby Johnson urges believers to ‘work to save each and every one’ in talk at Union University

The Union University Auxiliary hosted “An Evening with Abby Johnson,” in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel Tuesday (Sept. 1). Johnson is a pro-life advocate and author of the award-winning book, “Unplanned,” which has been adapted into a movie of the same title.

6. On this day in SBC history...

In 1958 - 140 Students Register As Midwestern Opens

After opening on Sept. 8, the seminary held its first student assembly with President Millard J. Berquist conducting an orientation session. H.I. Hester, vice-president of Hilliam Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., and chairman of Midwestern trustees, spoke at the first chapel service.

7. BP Sports Update

  • Premier League: Messi isn't coming to England, but James Rodriguez is. The Colombian signed with Everton this weekend.
  • MLB: With less than 20 games to go in the season, the Yankees are barely above .500 and are 6.5 games back of the Rays. Maybe even more surprising are the first-place Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. 
  • NBA: The Celtics lead the Raptors 3-2, Miami leads Milwaukee 3-1, the Clippers are up 2-1 on Denver, and the Lakers-Rockets series is tied at 1-1.
  • NHL: Dallas and Tampa Bay are both up 1-0 in their respective conference finals.
  • The Ponies: Authentic won the Kentucky Derby in an upset over Tiz the Law.
  • PGA: Dustin Johnson took home The Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup (and a ton of cash). 
  • NASCAR: Kevin Harvick kicked off the playoffs with a win at Darlington.
