National Voices launches social prescribing report

Dear <<First Name>>,

Wednesday saw the release of our report Rolling Out Social Prescribing - Understanding the Experience of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector. We hosted a webinar attended by an energised group of over 450 people with an amazing panel that included National Voices associate Kate Jopling, Craig Lister from The Conservation Volunteers, Sajid Hashmi MBE from Bury Voluntary, Community and Faith Alliance, and James Sanderson, Director of Personalised Care at NHS England and Improvement.

It turned out to be a special event, covering a lot of ground and unpicking some of the challenges facing social prescribing, namely around the demands on VCSE organisations, funding, primary care engagement, link worker roles and much more. There were over 2000 comments in the chat and more on Twitter, and everyone seems focused on making a success of this amazing movement. Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to the brilliant report and its successful launch. For more information please download the exec summary or the full report.

We are now exploring how to take the messages further, particularly around the need for more sustainable funding for all those organisations that provide support to people. We also think there is additional learning that comes out of the COVID period which we would like to capture. But we need to identify funding to do more work on this – we will keep you posted.

best wishes

New 'Dr Zoom' resources now available

Since launching our report on patients' experience of remote or virtual appointments,The Dr Will Zoom You Now, to 270 people at our webinar in July we have had many influencing successes, including a meeting with the No 10 Health Policy Taskforce, attending a round table with Sir Simon Stevens, Prof Steve Powis and Dr Nikki Kanani on the restoration of NHS services.

We've recently uploaded new Dr Zoom resources to our website and we'd really appreciate if you could share the report and easy to read guide on social media using the hashtag #DrZoom.

Next month we are delighted to be presenting the report at the King’s Fund Digital Health and Care Conference – Learning from Covid-19.

We're pleased to welcome Charles Howgego as our new Communications Manager. A former Big Issue editor, he has spent time at the Guardian and the BBC before moving into communications roles with organisations such as the Royal College of Pathologists, criminal justice charity User Voice and community development trust Westway Trust.
We are pleased to welcome two new members

Self Care Week 2020

The Self Care Forum is urging everyone to start planning for Self Care Week 2020, which is taking place from the 16-22 November. Self Care Week aims to embed self care in communities and families. Reminding people how to protect themselves and others against coronavirus is just one good reason to get involved in #selfcareweek this year. Take a look at their free resources to share via your networks.

Workshop: remote peer support for mental health

Tuesday 15 September
10-11.30am

We are delivering an interactive online workshop in collaboration with organisations who are sharing learning on remote peer support for people living with mental ill health or distress. The event, Peer Support Through the Pandemic and Beyond, will be an opportunity to explore the findings of a new report, written by Alison Faulkner, which brings together the insights shared across a series of forums held during the pandemic with peer support facilitators and group members, and to consider the extent to which this learning applies to remote peer support beyond the mental health space.

The event is open to anyone involved in providing, enabling or using peer support during the COVID-19 pandemic and will offer opportunities to work together to share learning and reflect on experiences.

Please note limited spaces are available: Register here

Tuesday 15 September, 2-3.30pm

We have the first of a series of Heads of Policy meetings on 15 September. These will happen every three weeks to share information, opportunities and also any input you might have on our work as a network.

On Tuesday we will be joined by Tim Straughan, who is Head of Patient Choice at NHS England. Please email info@nationalvoices.org.uk if you are interested in attending.
