Ducky Update

She’s had two good days in a row. Her foster mom, Tanya, probably hasn’t because she’s exhausted. And yet, Tanya still wants to do this amazing job!

Sometimes I look at the tiny, sick kittens that our fosters pour so much love and energy into and I think something like, “Shouldn’t we be helping humans instead of cats?” I don’t know about the others. All I know is that this is what I’ve been drawn to do.

I don’t do the hard part, though. All I do is beg you for money. No staying up nights. No kitten diarrhea on my clothes. No panic at 4 a.m. before I realize that, yes, she IS breathing.

So this is my job: please send donations! You people are AMAZING!

Kerrville Pets Alive (KPA)

Rescue groups in Kerrville, TX are coming together around Kerrville Pets Alive. The Kerr County Animal Shelter is also trying its hardest to achieve no-kill status.

In the spring, when many local shelters had shut down due to COVID-19, we took kitties from KPA. We still have one adult male, one mom cat and two of her kittens, but all the rest have been adopted.

Last week, we took a red and white tabby sweetheart named Monkey; two siblings now named Galaxy, a dilute calico, girl, of course—all calicos are girls—and her brother, Gunner, who is gray/blue, two months old; a gray tabby and white mom cat who was petrified when she got here, but has calmed a lot, and her 9-10 week old kitten. The mom is Thyme and the kitten is Peppermint. We will be taking a young, black male, Spirit, when he gets out of quarantine.

We don’t yet have fosters for Thyme and Peppermint, who must go together, or for Spirit, who will come weekend after next. If you’d like to foster, please complete our online foster application

Sounds Like a Rerun, Doesn’t It?

A recently abandoned, mother-less kitten has been transferred to Meryl, an experienced kitten bottle-feeding foster.
Saturday afternoon, we were geared up to transfer Cowboy to a new bottle baby foster, Meryl. However, that morning a couple had come to visit Cowboy at his current fosters’ home. They fell in love and, as they had adopted from us before, and are experienced bottle baby feeders, Cowboy is in our foster-to-adopt program.

I called Meryl with the news. She was understanding but disappointed. I told her not to worry, that I might look at my email as soon as I ended the call with her and find another bottle baby. I thought I was joking.

Well, it wasn’t an email, however. As soon as I got off the call with Meryl, I answered the landline to find a distressed young woman, Julie, who had a tiny kitten that a feral mother had dropped on her aunt’s porch.

I called Meryl back and asked, “You didn’t pour out that formula yet, did you?” She hadn’t. Calls back and forth to Julie and Meryl led to the kitten coming to Thundering Paws for an intake and then being transferred to her foster mom. Meryl is a retired human neonatal nursery RN whose daughter and sister both have extensive experience with kitten bottle babies. Another motherless kitten is being fed, loved and—I am sure—will have a name soon.

We asked for Fancy Feast and this is what you gave us! There’s also a case of Weruva in there somewhere, a really premium canned cat food, that was donated along with cases and cases of Fancy Feast.

 We are so grateful!
