Dear Parents, 

What a wonderful start we have had to the new school year, even if it’s been unusual!  Welcome back to the returning families and a special welcome to all of the new families.  We are so glad that you are part of the E. Rivers family!  

First and foremost, thank you parents and students for the tremendous effort you all have devoted to getting the virtual learning period off to a strong and positive start.  We understand the unexpected challenges that arise with virtual learning so it’s wonderful to see the ways families are working together to ensure that students have successful virtual learning experiences.  

For those of you who we have not had a chance to meet yet, we want to introduce ourselves and the other members of the PTA Executive Committee:

We loved kicking the year off by seeing so many families at the virtual Celebration of Learning as well as the Return+Learn Drive-Thru event.  As we could tell from the hundreds of pictures families sent us for the First Day of School video, the first virtual day proved to exciting and full of happy smiling faces.

Whether we are together in person or virtually, we are all very proud of our school’s strong and rich history of serving our community.  While we had to cancel a few PTA-sponsored fall events, we are preparing for and working towards holding as many activities as possible once we return to in-person learning.  During the virtual period, we are maintaining our commitment to enrich every student’s education by providing and distributing supplies and academic resources as well as by providing additional assistance whenever necessary.  
  
For these reasons, as E. Rivers enters its 104th year, your support is critical now more than ever as we tackle the new and unexpected challenges stemming from the pandemic.  Therefore, we request that you continue to help us make our E. River’s team outstanding by joining the PTA.  

You can join the PTA by logging in to our online directory, Membership Toolkit at:chttps://eriverselementarypta.membershiptoolkit.com/.8.  You will also be able to create a new account or update your current information to ensure that your family is included in this year's school directory.  Included in your membership is your exclusive 2020-21 PTA car magnet, which we will distribute over the next few weeks.  

For those families who are new to E. Rivers, please sign up for the weekly Lion’s Roar email newsletter here.  If you do not have access to email, you may request a paper copy of the newsletter by contacting eriverswelcomedesk@gmail.com.

We also encourage you to come to our PTA meetings.  All parents are welcome to attend any PTA meeting.  PTA meetings consist of monthly Board meetings on the third Wednesday morning of every month and General PTA meetings, which are held three times a year at 6 p.m.  While childcare is not provided at our meetings, younger children are always welcome.

During this period of virtual learning, our September and October PTA meetings will take place via Zoom.  Our first meeting is September 16th at 8:15 a.m. 

Please consider volunteering with PTA as well.  We have 103 committee chairs in charge of events for 45 different committees, therefore, no matter your interests or time commitment, your involvement is needed and much appreciated.  You can sign up for the monthly volunteer newsletter using this form or you may send an email to eriversvolunteers@gmail.com.     

We are looking to fill a few remaining committee chair positions including Brand Management, Kindergarten Kaleidoscope, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Arts Committee.  Please let us know if you would like more information about these positions or if you are able to fill one of these roles.  

Finally, we want to say a huge thank you to the amazing E. Rivers teachers, staff and administration.  They have gone above and beyond in every way to give our children the best possible virtual learning experience.  They have worked countless hours to prepare for online learning and they have dealt with the challenges that have arisen with smiles on their faces.  We are so grateful to them!

Padres,

¡Qué comienzo tan maravilloso hemos tenido para el nuevo año escolar, incluso si ha sido inusual!  Bienvenidos de nuevo a las familias que regresan y una bienvenida especial a todas las nuevas familias.  ¡Estamos muy contentos de que sea parte de la familia de E. Rivers!

En primer lugar, gracias a los padres y estudiantes por el tremendo esfuerzo que han dedicado para que el período de aprendizaje virtual tenga un comienzo fuerte y positivo.  Entendemos los desafíos inesperados que surgen con el aprendizaje virtual, por lo que es maravilloso ver las formas en que las familias trabajan juntas para garantizar que los estudiantes tengan experiencias de aprendizaje virtual exitosas.

Para aquellos de ustedes que aún no hemos tenido la oportunidad de conocer, queremos presentarnos a nosotros mismos y a los demás miembros del Comité Ejecutivo de la PTA:

Nos encantó comenzar el año al ver a tantas familias en la celebración virtual del aprendizaje, así como en el evento Return + Learn Drive-Thru.  Como pudimos ver por los cientos de fotos que las familias nos enviaron para el video del Primer Día de Clases, el primer día virtual resultó ser emocionante y lleno de caras sonrientes felices.

Ya sea que estemos juntos en persona o virtualmente, todos estamos muy orgullosos de la sólida y rica historia de servicio a nuestra comunidad de nuestra escuela.  Si bien tuvimos que cancelar algunos eventos de otoño patrocinados por la PTA, nos estamos preparando y trabajando para realizar tantas actividades como sea posible una vez que regresemos al aprendizaje en persona.  Durante el período virtual, mantenemos nuestro compromiso de enriquecer la educación de cada estudiante al proporcionar y distribuir suministros y recursos académicos, así como brindar asistencia adicional cuando sea necesario.

Por estas razones, ahora que E. Rivers entra en su 104º año, su apoyo es fundamental ahora más que nunca mientras abordamos los desafíos nuevos e inesperados derivados de la pandemia.  Por lo tanto, le pedimos que continúe ayudándonos a hacer que nuestro equipo de E. River sea sobresaliente al unirse a la PTA.

También le animamos a que asista a nuestras reuniones de la PTA. Todos los padres son bienvenidos a asistir a cualquier reunión de la PTA. Las reuniones de la PTA consisten en reuniones mensuales de la Junta el tercer miércoles por la mañana de cada mes y reuniones generales de la PTA, que se llevan a cabo tres veces al año a las 6 p.m. Si bien no se proporciona cuidado de niños en nuestras reuniones, los niños más pequeños siempre son bienvenidos.

Durante este período de aprendizaje virtual, nuestras reuniones de la PTA de septiembre y octubre se llevarán a cabo a través de Zoom. Nuestra primera reunión es el 16 de septiembre a las 8:15 a.m.

Considere también ser voluntario con la PTA. Tenemos 103 presidentes de comités a cargo de eventos para 45 comités diferentes, por lo tanto, sin importar sus intereses o compromiso de tiempo, su participación es necesaria y muy apreciada. Finalmente, queremos agradecer enormemente a los increíbles maestros, personal y administración de E. Rivers. Han ido más allá en todos los sentidos para brindarles a nuestros hijos la mejor experiencia de aprendizaje virtual posible. Han trabajado innumerables horas para prepararse para el aprendizaje en línea y han enfrentado los desafíos que han surgido con una sonrisa en sus rostros. ¡Estamos muy agradecidos por ellos!
