We will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT at the SCF Collegiate School. The date has been changed to Wednesday, October 14th at 12:30PM to 4:30PM.
The PSAT is typically given to all public school sophomores, however the PSAT/NMSQT is for juniors who could receive a scholarship.  Following, you will find reasons why your student is strongly encouraged to take the test :

  1. Practice makes perfect. We strongly encourage all students to take the SAT or ACT in the spring (and some even yet this fall). The PSAT/NMSQT is a good warm up. The more students take these types of tests, the more comfortable they become on future re-takes (and, hopefully, increase scores).
  2. PSAT/NMSQT scores tend to be a pretty good indicator of how students will do on the actual SAT. We can determine weak areas so that students know how to better prepare for the SAT, and practice for those areas for the SAT. Like the SAT, the PSAT/NMSQT tests break down your score into a variety of sub-scores, such as Words in Context, Command of Evidence, and Passport to Advanced Math. You can learn more about PSAT/NMSQT scoring here. Seeing how you rank in these different categories—during a low-stakes test—can show you where to focus your attention before the actual SAT rolls around.
  3. Our students who are sophomores by cohort, but enrolled with us a juniors based on credits, will not have had the opportunity to take the PSAT. This is your chance!!
  4. Scholarship opportunity! “A select few students who receive exceptionally high scores will receive National Merit recognition as Semifinalists or Finalists and may qualify for National Merit Scholarships.”
  5. While there is typically a fee to take the PSAT/NMSQT the Collegiate School will pay this fee for our students!
  6. The PSAT scores may be used as concordant scores for the Algebra 1 EOC that may be able to exempt the student from the EOC.
If you have a class during this time and would like to take the PSAT/NMSQT please let Dr. Peck (peckk@scf.edu) know ASAP.
